I used to work as a bench technician for geek squad on the Dell line, I saw laptops like this come in a lot. We had one that was shot in a police raid that we replaced, and another had an arrow through it. Hell, we even had one that was ran over by a tank that we replaced.

Out of curiosity, I was wondering how woking for Geek Squad was (pay, people interaction, overall quality of the workplace). I'm thinking about getting my A+ certification to be a computer tech.
User avatar #137 to #119 - manofparody ONLINE (02/24/2013) [-]
I didn't have my A+ at the time, but Geek Squad was amazing. I made a little under $13/hr (Keep in mind, I was 18 at the time and 7.65 is the minimum wage here [Indiana USA]) so the pay was amazing. The benefits were amazing, I got like (can't remember exactly) 15% above sales price/up to half off on items from best buy. It usually came to half off. I never really took a laptop apart before that day, and I was supposed to be on the Apple line originally ( ******* . Hate. Apple.) but apparently there was a mess up and they put me on the Dell line (Which I loved). I didn't know a thing and they put me with a guy that was a perfectionist, so I ended up quadruple checking everything I sent out making sure that it wouldn't come back. Everyone was fun and welcoming. I felt like I didn't belong with them when they ate (they were the biggest table in the cafeteria) so I sat alone until they forced me to sit with them. They started taking me paintballing and to applebees on every pay-week. I was happy.
They cared for their employees and made sure you were happy. I dropped out of high school and went to job corps to get my GED and vocational in computer science (I failed the A+ test at the time, you'll know why when you study for it). Geek Squad was my dream job and I got it.
I have regrets, mainly from being a teenager straight out of school that just wanted to sit at home for awhile but instead went straight into work and hated getting up because of it. I enjoy my current job, but I just wished it paid more. Money is all my family cares about and if I don't have it, I'm useless.
But yea, I got side-tracked. All in all, Geek Squad was my dream job for a reason, and I wasn't disappointed. The break room had 3-4 xbox 360s, 3-4 ps3s, full rock band, arcade machines, 2 computers set up online for Valve games (l4d2, portal, etc), 4 Macs set up for online misc, entire room filled with PCs for Cod4 LAN parties, and much more.

Dude that sounds awesome. I'm really glad I got your input.

No problem, I'll answer any other questions if you have any. I really enjoyed working for them. There isn't much of a well paying field down the road for computer repair technicians such as that, which is why I'd advise looking into something more advanced for college, such as system itemsistrator or such. You can always get a job like I had and climb the ranks there, though. It's your choice.

Nah, I got fired for attendance because of car issues.
In a nutshell:
I asked my boss if I could take a day to get my car fixed (had already missed a bunch because of my car), and he said yes. When I got back, they said I went over my attendance allowance and that I asked the wrong "boss" to take a day off so they let me go.

You can call ******** on whatever you like. It's your choice if you believe it or not.
We ended up replacing it because of the controversy that comes with denying services to military. The story behind it was that he took it overseas with him and it got ran over while it was in his bag. No idea what type of tank, but it had the treads and it was pretty ******* flat.

We also had one that had a tiny bug (insect) between the LCD and the top cover protecting the LCD. The only way it would get in there is if it were manufactured with the bug inside. I thought that one was hilarious.
