When he says "About $1000", I think he means $600, I think that was the highest the price was, and that was at the start (or when the higher gig versions came out, no idea)

It's allegedley going to cost between roughly 429 - 550$ (or 320 - 450€, if I'm not mistaken).

Considering that there are people which pay 700$ for a smartphone, that price seems to be fair, in my opinion.

+ it's way cheaper than the launchprice of the PS3

It's a disgusting rip-off. A $350-$400 custom built PC can beat consoles, but the next gen consoles stand no chance against a $500-$600 PC. Why bother with a console if they're more expensive than an equivalent PC?

Well, I don't really now, to be honest.

But I really prefer playing on a console than playing on my notebook. Which is because it's rather outdated (2,5 years old now) and some awesome **** games aren't released on PCs (e.g. Final Fantasy [I'm a huge Final Fantasy Fan *-* ]).

The only games I prefer to playing on PCs are Shooters, cause it's easier to aim :p

He does raise a good point though. Most of the new PS4 features are to make Playstation a "social experience" with options to share screenshots and stream live gameplay, rather than any actual technological advances by Sony. Or maybe they're just advertising to the Facebook/Twitter fanbase, rather than actual gamers.

It's still just a prototype, the share button is advanced for the sharing actual gameplay though; I have never seen anything like that. Also, isn't there a screen in the controller? I know the dreamcast did that before, but hey it's still pretty cool

not really, i paid 700$ for my laptop that can run borderlands two 30 fps on some of the lowest graphics settings. And that was 2 years ago. the prices have went down. And also, there are a lot more PC exclusives(and Free to plays that are quite good) than on consoles. Of course, i have consoles too, but if i had to choose, i would say PC is better. And also, considering you will be most likely using steam, you get an ******* of sales, decreasing prices(except for ******* skyrim goddamnit) and you dont have to get ********* for your money from gamestop. Questions? And about viruses, dont be a ******** and you wont get them.

Actually £700 (roughly $1000 US) will buy you a pretty decent gaming PC that's better than current consoles (if not the next gen ones too). And that's buying one. No system building experience required. Although you will have to install windows yourself, but that's pretty easy. Just a lot of clicking "next" and "I agree". Also if you already have a decent desktop PC then you can usually just stick in a £200 graphics card (not very difficult) and it will run games better than any console.

£700 may seem like a lot at first but if you play a lot of games you will actually save money since PC games are usually a lot cheaper than console games (plus the steam sales are glorious)!

My old pc cost about £400 when I bought it (about a year after the PS3 came out) and I bought a £200 graphics card for it. So far it has worked almost flawlessly for about 4 years now and it can still play current gen games at medium settings comfortably or at xbox 360 level settings (fairly low on modern games) incredibly easily. I've probably even saved half the money that I spent on it in through buying PC games instead of Xbox 360 ones.

I used to also own an original Xbox 360 (best of both worlds and all that) but it ran out of warranty after it's second RROD. After that I got the newer one, which didn't have any problems but it never really had the same appeal as pc gaming. Now it just sits on a shelf being occasionally used to chat over Xbox live.

In my experience if your computer "comes with viruses and runs like ****, breaks down constantly, and finally stops working all together after three years" you're doing something wrong. Very wrong. I have one of my dad's old computers that is about 10 or so years old that runs on Windows ME and it still runs fine. Admittedly it won't be playing Crysis 3 any time soon. But it's still good. Today I reckon it would be around £100.

I guess it just comes down to personal experience and preference. If a console is good for you then that's fine and if you prefer PC then that's fine also.

All PC arguements are the same;

"THEY AREN'T THAT EXPENSIVE. . . *proceeds to describe a multitude of 'cheap' purchases equaling between 600-2000 dollars*

XBOX AND PS3 BREAK! ALL DEH TIME."

I've had my same Xbox since 2008.

When it comes right down to it;
Consoles are cheaper.
Consoles are more reliable.
Consoles are guaranteed to play your games (as long as they're for that console of course)
Consoles are easier, and more fun to play and maintain.

(02/24/2013) [-]
Admittedly the initial purchase of a PC isn't cheap because you're not just buying a gaming platform. You're also buying hardware and software with desktop capabilities. But yes, consoles are cheaper in that respect.

The reason that they can be cheaper for some is that in the long run it can save you money if you buy a lot of games as PC games are almost always cheaper (not really sure why though). Storage space for saving games on PC is also cheaper as most console 320GB hard drives cost £80 whereas a PC 320GB hard drive would cost roughly £30.

As for reliability it really depends on what console or PC you get and how you treat it. A PC can potentially last indefinitely as can any console. However the failure rates of the original Xbox 360 were around 54%. Way higher than any PC that I know of. Admittedly the new Xbox 360 seems pretty solid. Still if you've had yours since 2008 without a RROD you're pretty lucky.

As for being guaranteed to play games there are very few games that won't play on every PC that is actually built for gaming. Compatibility isn't really an issue at all. Besides on PC you can get so many exclusive and indie games it really makes up for any number of unavailable console only games.

I will admit that consoles are usually easier. They are very simple to use and do not require any technical expertise. If you don't want to worry about technical aspects then consoles are certainly ideal. However they are not necessarily more fun. That is merely an opinion. All platforms can be equally as fun to play. Some people enjoy the fun aspects of consoles and others enjoy the fun aspects of PC. It's as simple as that.

As for maintaining consoles the only real way to maintain it is to send it off to the manufacturer. With a PC on the other hand you can either do that or you can replace an individual component yourself, which can often mean that you can continue to use the system in some capacity while waiting for a replacement part.

XBox's lost their value quick. That doesn't say much for them, and building a computer doesn't take "smarts," just a little free time. A good computer will save you money. It will last longer, perform better, it will serve multiple purposes, and it will hold resale value.

Exactly, emphasis on the near part. And it has only been annonced, meaning when it gets to the market, it won't have much chance of surpassing the power of top gaming rigs.
Of course, not every PC has such power and those who do are much more expensive.
PS4 also has the advantage of being dedicated hardware, so better optimisation and resource efficiency can be achieved and improved by software updates later on.

But given those rather strange (and a bit redundant) sharing features, I'd say **** it and get x720 when it comes out. Or better yet get what Valve is cooking.

I have a feeling that when Valve cooks out their valve box or whatever, it's going to be awhile for it to come out with a lot of mainstream games. Obviously it'd be cool to play tf2 on your t.v with a controller and other exclusive PC games, plus it'd be better developed by an actually gaming company, but I feel like next gen games (BF4, COD78 or whatever it's on now, Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, and many others) may not be compatible with it, so it'll take it awhile to get jumps-started. Or, some of those games might be working with Valve right now, who knows.

but thats ignoring the fact that some of the best games out there are exclusive to consoles while there arent that many exclusive pc games that arent rts. infamous, uncharted, littlebigplanet, god of war, halo, gears of war and killzone. all great games only playable on console. also theres the fact that out of all the platforms the pc suffers the most from piracy leading to many publishers and developers losing faith in making the most money on pc and making pc-centric titles. really there arent many developers left who have the pc as the lead platform and the ones that are are quickly going multiplatform. just my 2 cents

tl;dr pc gaming maybe be better technologically but in the long run consoles will prevail

I've got one better. A friend of mine was really desperate to get a gaming PC because he was incredibly jealous of mine, and the only computer he had was a 7-year-old Dell middle-range desktop which was about to die a horrible death brought on by downloading petabytes of porn. He refused to let me help him pick out a machine and make sure he didn't spend too much money for the rig he wanted ("no thanks man I got this"), and ended up spending $200 on a pc gaming case. Just the case. Just the plastic outer shell that the motherboard and hard drives and all the other bits get stuffed into. Turns out that was all the money he had saved up, and he actually went to the internet thinking that'd be enough to buy an actual pre-built gaming machine.

He then threatened to sue the people who sold it to him for "defective merchandise."

There truly is no limit to the depths of human stupidity.

I'm still using the same machine I built two years ago. Have a grand total of $2,000 in it, and it's able to run my Skyrim with a whole bunch of graphics mods without more than a tiny bit of lag which only crops up during huge battle scenes.

PC gaming is best gaming. And I think I'm going to at least castrate my buddy so he can't reproduce and perpetuate that enormous ignorant gene. Maybe not kill him - he makes me laugh when he does stupid stuff like this, and then flails around and yells about it. But we do need to think of the future of the human race, and him having children would certainly spell doom for an entire generation of intellect.

And people say graphics don't make a game and I agree to a certain extent, but they are pretty important. The 360 is limited to playing all new games below High graphics. Even today it's basically a low end computer with a 3.2Ghz triple core CPU and a poor GPU

What is it with Gamestops going back to selling classic games

It all started with Battle Toads

Now they are finding Mega Drive Games

Now this

Now Gamestop refuses under any means to take Original XBOX, PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, Gamecube, Game Boy, or Gameboy Advance Games.

Anything Older than that is probably worth more online than at Gamestop

This is a Magnavox Odyssey a console older than the 2600. This thing is worth THOUSANDS of dollars by collectors and even though it is the first home console it has no where near the fun an Atari 2600 has.

You mean...That's a FIRST GENERATION console!?
I always wondered what one of those looked like.

This is a one controller game console. Yes even the Atari 2600 had 2 controllers this one had ONE! It also came with plastic markers to put on your television screen so it would almost feel like you were playing a board game on your television. You'd take turns passing the controller while making your move. This console came with pencils, scoreboards, dice, and all of that

It's the pinnacle of using your imagination.

I remember watching the AVGN playing that thing.

Other than the fact that it's old, I really don't see a reason anyone would want one.

Collectors Collect because they have too much money and everyone needs a hobby. Hell this is the first HOME CONSOLE there is **** that goes further than this which is worth x3 the price.

Pong and Astroids used to be on Arcade Machines. Only reason Atari had them was because they were ported

Saturn I think was the best option. In fact, that's the version Capcom put on the Mega Man X Collection.

There is a Kinect like sensor bar that's gonna be for the PS4 to use the controller, similar to the Wii/ Wii U where you need a sensor bar for the controller.

Good job Playstation, you revolutionized Wii technology, and now I bet they'll be "revolutionizing" the Kinect...

You seem to have opinions, so I have a question. Do you prefer the bumper/trigger set-up on the X-Box 360 over the R/L 1 and 2 buttons of the PS3?

I'll play with either one, but, the L2 and R2 on the dualshock 3 are horrible and these look worse.

He was probably referring to the fact that every time you so much as set the controller down, it would press the R2 and L2 buttons. It is actually quite annoying.

The analog sticks are concave. I don't know how I feel about that, I'm already so used to the convex ones the Playstation controllers have always had.

concave and convex.... those are polygon definitions no? concave are the ones that have an inwards corner or more and convex have none. I understand what you're getting at, but I believe that you are using them wrong.

Oh, just wait until all the games require this interaction. First imagine Metal gear solid, then compare with Candy crush saga.

"Snake, that door is locked. You can either get five friends to help you open it, or pay $2 for a keycard"

Ar maybe you need to get a friend online to navigate you through a pitch black room or pay for batteries for the NVG.

"You seem to have trouble with this boss, would you like to buy the grenade launcher for $5?"

Or worst case scenario: 500 likes on FB to unlock the DLC. I fear we're in for an age of faggotry. Plus I have a feeling the stupid cameras won't work in my home theatre that's totally dark except for my projector. Besides, I don't want to jump around when i'm playing games.

Now: Imagine if sony had backed the Oculus Rift instead of turning playstation into a surfpad. I would NEVER stop playing fallout or elder scrolls. The rift already has a complete devkit, would be cake to make one for playstation (and add support for "normal" 3d in games and movies). 900 bucks for the ps4? ****, I'd pay 1500 if it shipped with Oculus rift. (And was a REALLY good media player like boxxee box or similar).
