It's really a simple concept, in half life, a radioactive property that all living organisms have decay at a predictable rate. For example, carbon 14. Over thousands of years, it decays at a rate we know, and we measure them in half lives. However, since you can never get exactly zero when dividing a number by two, the radioactive product is never truly gone, it simply gets too small for us to read.
