It's really astonishing what we have accomplised in the past couple of decades. I hope this is real, because it looks like a very convenient solution to the rise in CO2 levels.

Buy extra jackets; you'll be cold when the CO2 goes away.

Algae lamps that use 150-200x more CO2 in a year than trees may soon light up streets!

If this is real,

and stuff like this does happen.

I have a feeling this will have some serious blowback to it somehow in regards to our natural enviroment.

Finally we can get rid of trees and replace them with superior technology. That **** is old. It was in serious need of innovation.

Now all we have to do is find an alternative habitat for mammals that live in trees and we are set. Synthetic paper is already here...but I guess I don't have a problem with people who find them pleasing to look at keeping them around.... begrudgingly ....I suppose....grrgghhhh.

NO **** THAT...and **** trees. Break my ******* arm will you?.....can't even support the weight of an average man can you? LIAR ******* TREES. Actually we'd be replacing streetlamps, not trees, with superior technology.

#297 to #289 - lolqueso (02/23/2013) [-]
what if they could make the tree grow around one of these you know..im sure science could make that happen

Like the drones the Navy developed that can act, solve problems, carry out commands, and take out obstacles without a pilot. All by themselves. These drones literally think on their own.

Skynet Anyone?

User avatar #299 to #298 - pizzamenz (02/23/2013) [-]
of course, it's not like these drones can walk on out and start raving. However, the Dept. of Homeland Security and the police of cities like Orlando of Florida were wanting to use drones like these.

I know how you feel. Not too long ago I was having a discussion with some schoolmates about Japans nuclear usage. It brought to mind how Japan and China are both in hot tension over those islands. Already knowing how both countries are such big producers of nuclear weapons, you can tell it won't end well in the long run.

And if you hear news about the missal programs the military keeps coming out with, you would find that many high powered weapons we have make naval warfare impossible. Not only that, but every time a state of the art WMD is produced, another one even more powerful than the last is made by another country.

The oxygen levels in the atmosphere haven't changed much more than a single percent in the last 65 million years, I don't think this development will change much really.
User avatar #313 to #308 - mcbmichael (02/23/2013) [-]
cause your 65 million years old

Yeah, but these insects wouldn't be around for another few million years. So I thing we're good.

Indeed it is an amazing alternative energy source. They had tried (I'm not sure if they succeeded or not) to make a red-algae bio-fuel for rockets.
