I'm Christian, and let me tell you guys a few things.

These are just my opinions and I'm sure most of you won't care, but I just felt like sharing them. I think that God was pretty badass as depicted in the Bible.

God does not hate soldiers or fighting. He rained fire upon many cities, he killed many armies, he did lots of awesome **** . It's not like he doesn't like war. He may not like bloodshed, but sometimes it is needed.

God does not hate gay people. He said that he hates the practicing of Sodomy, or Homosexuality, as it is commonly called, but he loves those people too. Love the sinner hate the sin?

God does not hate Jews. First of all this is retarded. It would be counter-productive, seeing as Jesus was a Jew, and it says that Jews were God's chosen people.

The Bible also states that when your enemy falls to not rejoice. God's love includes everyone. The Westboro Baptist protesters are nuts, God does not hate anyone, only sin, for it says in the Bible that he is so holy that he cannot be near sin. I also don't believe that you go to hell for breaking any of the Ten Commandments (Or the more serious rules, as some people say.), because if you think about it, everyone breaks those commandments.

I'm prepared for the red thumbs, but know this: If FunnyJunk respects Muslims, and Atheists, and all other religions and their beliefs, I only ask that mine should be respected as well. (I agree that some Christians may try to shove their beliefs down other people's throats, and most Christians disagree.) I welcome other opinions as I like to see what people have to say, merely for the sake of gaining more insight and knowledge.

The problem with your religion is not those who use it spiritually (as it was intended) but for those who use it for their own gain. Who use it to justify evil acts for power or due to prejudice.

Religion can be a very powerful tool, as it gives people a cause, it creates a community of which can drive a perfectly moral human being to doing dreadful evil things.

I actually did a gay rights presentation in my speech class, The original bible (NOt in English) doesn't even mention sodomy or homosexuality; let alone hate it.

Got this information from a gay guy who studied the original text on some website, but I guess inb4 "Do you believe everything on the internet."

Think his name is Mathew Vines.
User avatar #121 to #113 - Lambda (02/21/2013) [-]
The bible does forbid homosexuality. If I recall, the language used was for "a man to lie with another as he does with a woman". It's in Leviticus.
But, one must keep in mind: That's from the same part of the bible that forbids tattoos, eating of shellfish, contact with pigs, and even BACON. So if we love bacon we have no reason to hate gays.
#149 to #121 - ichbinlecher (02/21/2013) [-]
New Testament likewise forbids the practice, but what needs to be kept in mind is that it is not the inclination towards (as I have forgotten my PC terms suddenly), but rather the action. Also, ask why does it matter to God at all? My bet lies with why adultery and incest and rape are seen as bad - because it defiles the marriage bed, and marriage is the symbol for the union between God and the church.

I'm also a Christian and I believe that whether you go to Heaven or Hell is not determined by your sin, it's determined by whether you truly love God in your heart and truly desire to praise him.

On the subject of same-sex marriage, the Bible does condemn homosexuality in Leviticus (18:22, I believe) but the trick is that the Bible, no matter how much some people seem to think it is, is not our judicial code. We should never, ever, make legal decisions or write laws dependent on any religion or religious text, Christian or otherwise. The promise of America is equal rights for EVERYONE; it's time we made good on that promise.

Can I just clarify one thing: if God doesn't mind gay people but hates the act itself, does that mean that gay people unfortunately have to live the rest of their live's sexually frustrated? Also, do you believe in Evolution or Big Bang Theory?
User avatar #208 to #74 - jordanish (02/21/2013) [-]
Also if you read the bible you find that a) Angels were god's soldiers and b) some of them were borderline psychopaths (especially Gabriel who rendered a man mute for being dumbfounded when he told him that his infertile wife was pregnant.)

All the anti-gay stuff comes from the letters section in which Paul (the guy who basically turned Christianity into an organised religion) wrote his homophobic feelings down and made them part of church doctrine by getting them to be a part of the bible.
The anti-semetic stuff probably comes from the time between the end of WWI and the end of WWII, Jews were the most affluent group during the hard times after WWI and during WWII many Jewish refugees flooded to other countries to escape Hitler causing difficulty for the people there who were still struggling to get by.

Also I'm atheist for my own reasons but I find that it's easier to view groups like the West-bro Baptist Church as small minded ***** who'll hide behind any excuse (in this case religion) as a reason to spout homophobic and racist ********
User avatar #246 to #208 - vigilum ONLINE (02/21/2013) [-]

But it says in the Bible that you go to hell if you break the ten commandments...
You just decide not to believe it because it is inconvenient. It's called cherry-picking, you obviously believe in the Bible stories, but not the ten commandments.

Not hating on your opinion or anything, believe whatever you want, it just doesn't make any sense to me. The Westboro Baptist Church may be ****** up, but at least they don't cherry-pick
User avatar #284 to #234 - skrynox (02/21/2013) [-]
Where does it say that exactly? I honestly don't remember.

But I do know that it says that everyone is condemned but are redeemed by the blood of Jesus.
#286 to #284 - robtarded (02/21/2013) [-]
I haven't read the Bible myself, I just assumed that the punishment for breaking God's laws would be hell. Based on popular belief I guess. The point I was making is that unless you are a creationist who believe everything in the Bible, you are just cherry-picking whatever you want out of the Bible and basically make up your own religion based on another.
User avatar #295 to #286 - skrynox (02/21/2013) [-]
I believe everything from the Bible, but understand this: It was a ruthless time then and things were punished more severely until Jesus died for our sins. After that, things became more relaxed (As you can observe in the New Testament) and in order to be forgiven you just had to ask God to forgive you.

For more details read the New Testament (Ezekiel, Hebrews, and Revelations are some of my favorite books)

Give me a single good reason why homosexuality is a sin? You say "hate the sin not the sinner" but people who openly and without regret commit "sodomy", or homosexuality must then be sinners. The bible is an old outdated book, writen down by humans, all with their own political opinions and agendas. It has nothing to do with neither god, nor a certain jewish carpenter from nazerat, prove me wrong if you can.
