don't look at the tags

Sear was the best Disney villain, and far better than
many Hollywood villains. He never took time to
explain his plan and what would ensue. He just got
**** done. He set out to kill the king and steal his
throne. He did that all without explaining himself.
He just used one classy line, "Long We the king."

In the book he was a bitch compared to Kaa. Who was a sort of good character, but with some monkeycidal instincts. And omnicidal at times. But comparison to Scar is great!

Eh, he's not bad. Granted, he's up there in probably the top ten but he becomes really uninteresting after he becomes king. Sure, hundreds (if not thousands) die under his reign as king, but not only do we not see this, but he just comes across as a whining prima-donna.

Compared to someone like Judge Claude Frolo though? This ****** was mental! Torn between vice and violence and with perhaps the best song ever to appear in a Disney movie. Perfectly happy to kill a baby if it weren't for his own selfishness and fear of hell, even then he decides to lock him away in a tower and force him into a life of isolated servitude. Imprisoning and executing countless innocents and all in the name of god.

What an asshole.
User avatar #10 to #1 - moseph (02/20/2013) [-]
I'd agree if it weren't for the fact that I still believe Frollo was not a Disney villain
User avatar #13 to #10 - snowshark (02/20/2013) [-]
Granted, Frolo is the construct of the novel that the movie was based upon, but then again, so was Scar (well... stage-play). So the question really is about how much of the characters came from the adaptation and how much came from the source material.

Well, that design is pretty damn good, same with that great voice and the song Hellfire. Even the introduction song was a disney construct. Yes, the story is not entirely original, but no story is truly all that original these days. It is more about how the story uses what it has to hand than who gave it those things, no?
User avatar #15 to #13 - moseph (02/20/2013) [-]
Well... sure. What I meant is that I never considered Frollo a villain. He doesn't kill a baby but later he tries to keep him in solitude knowing that other people could not accept him. To show Quasimodo the cruel reality of life and what happens if he disobeys him, he doesn't stop the crowd from lynching him. Instead Esmeralda proves to Quasimodo that people can be kind. I think that Frollo, having listened to people's sins most of his life stopped believing in the possibility of their kindness. Not only is he a victim of his work, he also became a victim of a seductress. I agree that Frollo wasn't perfect and had flaws but I'm pretty sure anyone would have very similar flaws. His work, mortality and faith are what made him look like a villain.
User avatar #19 to #15 - snowshark (02/20/2013) [-]
Ah, but then we stumble onto the greatest dilemma in all of writing. What separates the good from the bad? He is enraptured in delusions of both grandeur and religion. He is operating autonomously and allowing the conscience for his actions be cast aside in the face of his faith, as we well know so many did in his time and so many still, sadly, continue to do today.

Perhaps then the correct wording is 'Antagonist'? He certainly forces the story along and whilst we can sympathise with him, we are not initially meant to, or at least not to the point where we wish him to succeed.

When you begin diving into what truly makes someone a villain you should eventually come to the conclusion that there is no genuine distinction of what makes a villain other than them being the opposing force in the story to the protagonists, ergo the antagonist; and even then the distinction only lasts as far as you perceive it to.

Because if you follow the chain down far enough you see that nobody is intrinsically 'evil'. We are all the product of our experiences. We are influenced by the world around us and by our attempts to influence the world in turn. So, though the term is cliche, there really is no good nor evil, rather there is simply perspective.

You are all forgetting about Attila in mulan. He didn't tell his plans to the main hero before trying to kill them.

He has killed more people than any other Disney villain... Without hiding behind a god for his actions. He let the Chinese know he was coming in the movie so that he could have more fun before he took over china. He also killed women and children without a care.

Disney time lines aside, we all know that Attila went to Europe, not china.
User avatar #244 to #241 - snowshark (02/21/2013) [-]
Actually, that's a very good point. He has a very simple design but it gets across a very threatening presence very quickly.

However I feel that he was very mis-used. We never really see the things he does, merely the aftermath of them. That would be okay if the move were more about him, but he only really appears in order to **** **** up ad he doesn't really have a motive beyond that. He doesn't say anything really interesting to the main character and his best lines are before he even meets her. Whilst he has probably the biggest and bloodiest body-count of any disney villain and one hell of a cool design, he really does suffer from underexposure. The film would likely have benefitted by leaving him and Mulan together a few times, perhaps in a quiet scene in the palace where he's stalking her, to build up tension.

Maybe it's just me, but I figure he could have been so much more than he was.

Not to mention the fact he decided that in order to remove his lust he either had to burn Esmeralda in order to burn away her evil succubus magic, or rape her.

Gothel. She wants to live forever, and she finds a magic flower to do just that. When the flower gets taken, she has no qualms about kidnapping the baby who inherited its power. She leaves the kingdom in a state of disarray and hides the child for eighteen years in a tower.

Then, when she discovers the girl's escaped, she tracks her across the land, hires thugs to kidnap her again, and in the end doesn't even hesitate to straight up shank the love interest. Bad Ass.

Atop the 4th Wall, The Nostalgia Chick, Brad Jones, Angry Reviews, Nostalgia Critic, Ask That Guy, Blockbuster Buster, Welshy, Weekly Manga Recap, Thumb Wars, You Know Who, Renegade Cut and occasionally some of the other producers, if their content appeals to me.

I joined fairly early on in his run. Still, he represents, to me, the future of internet entertainment. He and the producers on TGWTG represent what I personally hold to be the evolution of what T.V. channels are. Only, rather than seeing one show at a time, you see all of the shows from many sources whenever you want to.

Granted, there are budgeting issues, but the point stands that that is where I would put my money into investment.

Also, I forgot to mention Nash. I ******* LOVE Nash.

For those of you complaining, yes he did have a whole song about it. But it wasn't to "savor the moment" in front of the protagonist, he had to tell his minions about his plan. They didn't know. He just did it in song. It didn't waste any time and it never tipped anyone off unnecessarily about the plan. He explained it once and knew it wouldn't have to be explained again, so he didn't
