numero is number in spanish, as well.
User avatar #42 to #4 - mcbee (02/19/2013) [-]
it is but lets say i said it like : they came to my party in big numbers.
in french it would be : ils ont venu à ma fête en grand nombres.
but numéro is used in a differente context, as darkrei and guildor have already mentioned
User avatar #10 to #4 - darkrei (02/19/2013) [-]
actually, number indeed means nombre in french, however,it is used to talk about actual numbers, such as one, three, etc.

numero is for phone numbers!
#12 to #10 - guildor (02/19/2013) [-]
Well, in my part of the world, we use ''numéro'' for phone numbers and well, numbers in general (for example: that math homework, from number 5 through 10? Numéro 5 à 10) If you want someone's phone number, you precise it... (what's your phone number? = C'est quoi ton numéro de téléphone?)

It's not a universal rule, as there are french slang depending from where you are...

I hope I helped :) Here's a cute picture for your time...

If you're asking a person's name in spanish it's "como te llamas"
User avatar #13 to #7 - wtf man (02/19/2013) [-]
actually its "cual es tu nombre", "como te llamas" is more like "what do you call yourself" or "what do they call you"
#24 to #13 - riefenstahl (02/19/2013) [-]
I don't think anyone asks "¿Cuál es tu nombre?" for knowing someone's name, although is a correct way of asking. Most people would just go with "¿Cómo te llamas?" in Spain.
User avatar #28 to #24 - wtf man (02/19/2013) [-]
yeah i know i was going for the literal translation
#17 to #13 - bronywhat (02/19/2013) [-]
^ This guy is right, thumb him instead onlookers
User avatar #52 to #13 - danniegurl (02/19/2013) [-]
that's really a technicality.
"what do you call yourself?" is the literal translation, but in the language, it means the same as "what is your name?"
both are correct, however it's more common to ask "como te llamas?" though.
User avatar #53 - TheLastNinja (02/19/2013) [-]
Well if you're asking them in spanish, with correct grammar, it would be "¿Qué es tu nombre?" or in french "I don't know French. **** off"
User avatar #89 to #53 - nexuser (02/20/2013) [-]
I think the French one is "We surrender"
User avatar #60 to #53 - lateday (02/20/2013) [-]
Actually, in Spanish it would be "¿Cuál es tu nombre?"

For phone numbers, we don't use nombre but numéro.

"Quel est ton numéro?" would be appropriate.

Gif unrelated.

I was referring to the name part... But I was taught "Cual es tu numéro?"

I'm not arguing but I rethought it as "Qué te llamo?"
User avatar #57 to #56 - QCGunslinger (02/19/2013) [-]
Not arguing at all, I was completing the missing French part of your comment :3 I should have specified. My bad!

if you asked someone que es tu nombre theyd think youre a retard
User avatar #3 - blashyrkh (02/19/2013) [-]
Spanish pronunciation - "nom-bray"

You don't say "what's your name" in Spanish anyway, you say "What do you call yourself?"
