I've read some comments now and it seems that there really isn't all that many people who didn't like the movie. Personally I think it's not that great a movie, and the only reason that I have for not liking the movie is because it takes place in Middle Earth and has a connection with the LotR series. I love those series to the death, and the Hobbit was presented in a completely different way, and it was incredibly less realistic... I did not like this at all. If the movie hadn't had anything to do with LotR, then I would also have seen this movie as awesome, unfortunately that is not the case.

Also, making 3 movies from 1 book that isn't really that big is clearly done just to milk the series even more for more money.

Of course it takes place in Middle-Earth because that is where it is set.
Also I think it is less realistic because it was a children's, so by doing that it makes it more childish.

what...? I... what...? Why shouldn't The Hobbit take place in Middle Earth?

it's not that it should'nt take place in middle earth. The book is made before the LotR books (I think) and of course it should be set in middle earth, but it's as callmemaster said, if I hadn't known anythink about the lore or anything about middle earth at all I would have gotten a different kind of impression of the movie. Since I have seen the LotR series up to multiple times I had certain expectations about the hobbit that did not get fulfilled.
