I have a Windows 8 phone and it's ******* glorious.

I love it, but it seems buggy. Mine is keeping crashing..

I'm not suprised, from the moment I saw it I thought that it looked like a Smartphone layot, not a laptop layout.

That's the point, though. It's the same thing, whether you're on a phone, or tablet, or PC. I like the windows 8 design for a tablet. It's smooth and makes sense with a touchscreen. But in a mouse and keyboard environment, it's just frustrating and fairly well useless!

Then clearly you've no clue how to use it properly. I can navigate win8 faster with a mouse and keyboard than I can win7 with the same mouse/keyboard. Here are some tips (i.e. keyboard shortcuts. There are A LOT more than this, but these are the ones I find myself using more often than anything else):
Win+C brings up charms
Win+Q is "search" --> If you're on the desktop, it'll search all apps. If you're in a "Modern" app, it'll search that app. So I can go into a dictionary app, type Win+Q, and start searching for whatever word I want
Win+D is "go to desktop" or "show desktop" --> These have different meanings. If you're not at your desktop, win+d will bring you to the desktop "app" in the state it was in before. Otherwise, it'll act just like win7/vista/... win+d
Win+I is "show settings" --> It gets you one screen away from "shutdown"/"restart"/etc
Win+> and Win+. work with pinning apps so you can run Messaging beside your desktop faster
Alt+Tab: Same as win7 -- Win+Tab only cycles through modern apps.
Alt+F4 STILL WORKS IN MODERN APPS. So you don't have to drag your screen.
And most importantly, Win+X on the desktop (and start screen?) will bring up a really ******* legit menu with one-click access to fatistrative cmd, disk util, etc.
You're welcome.

I guess it's a fad to hate on Win8 now. *Thumbs back up*

Thanks for the useless information that I will never need because I will never upgrade to Windows 8.

No problem. Good luck staying stuck on ********* Win7 for the rest of your life then, because I'm assuming this UX is here to stay. :)

Innovation is frowned upon in the consumer market. There's a reason the user interface has been mostly the same for more than a decade.

That's why tablet/smartphone sales have been going through the roof, and desktop/laptop sales continue to fall, right?
User avatar #176 to #175 - dedaluminus (02/16/2013) [-]

I'm sorry, what were you saying? It sounded like you were saying laptop and desktop sales were falling. And they are, ever since Windows 8 came out.

Which is to be expected, considering Win8 is targeting tablets, desktops, and laptops? Also, note this from that exact article:

"On Monday, a top Windows executive said Microsoft had sold 40 million Windows 8 licenses in the month since the launch. That is ahead of Windows 7 at the same stage, ..."

It has a desktop just like every other Windows.

But, unless they have a feature to bring back the start menu (like in older windows) you have to use this touch screen friendly , mouse hating menu.

They do...

I'm gonna come right out and say it. I would rather use Windows ME than Windows 8.

Hell, I got XP on it as a secondary boot option. Everyone in my house can use Win8, I'd rather stick with XP.
