Your definition of "money" is flawed.
The American dollar used to be based upon the amount of gold the government had. Now, the government just prints more bills, then takes more away in taxes.

But what is money?
Just pretty ink on pretty paper, and very hard pieces of stamped rocks, nothing more.
#84 to #49 - John Cena (02/15/2013) [-]
No, I believe your definition of money is flawed. You see, the definition of money isn't pretty ink on pretty paper or pieces of rock. The definition of money is something that individuals are willing to accept in exchange for a good or service. There are different ways to decide what money encompasses like M2 and M3 definitions, one of which only includes liquid assets that can be readily used, the other includes investments and such.
User avatar #120 to #84 - GeneralLeeInsane (02/15/2013) [-]
Liquid assets being gasoline, for $4.00 a gallon. Which everyone is whining about.
Then there's hydraulic fluid, for tractors and **** , for $10.00 per gallon.
And chain oil, for chainsaws, for $13.00 per gallon.

I digress...
What you have defined, is currency, which is slightly different than money.
All money is currency, but not all currency is money.

User avatar #157 to #120 - pebar (02/15/2013) [-]
a liquid asset isn't literally a liquid...
it's something that can easily be exchanged for cash without much effort, such as raw materials like iron or coal

Earth is gullible enough to trust the guy who mugged him

User avatar #243 - ultimatebadass (02/15/2013) [-]
I've never seen America happy with the president they currently have, people need to realize most of the time the government isn't stealing money for themselves. That's how a country makes money to pave roads, build schools and pay police officers. If we weren't taxed we would be a third world country with rich people living in it, its a necessity. The fact of the matter is that people think a country can be changed in a year or two and it simply can't, country's also always go through ups and downs and it's not the president or governments fault, it's people spending all their money on iphones and laptops that we're all guilty of. Its easy to pass the blame so thats what we all do, and always will do.
User avatar #249 to #243 - narutohaukea (02/15/2013) [-]
yeah but in america the people controlling the country are all making it easier for the people selling ipads to do things illegally to keep selling their products at a disadvantage to the people in the country. idk if its because their just that dumb or if its because they might be making some money on the side for themselves (no i do not believe in the government being controlled by Pepsi or whatever)
User avatar #278 to #249 - philippinessucks (02/15/2013) [-]
It's called "free market". It's what caused the Great Depression too.

The government does make a profit on sales. It's called "sales tax"....
User avatar #279 to #278 - narutohaukea (02/15/2013) [-]
i mean like money going straight into their pockets not taxes or their regular pay. unless their taking tax payer money for themselves that would just be...yea

User avatar #270 to #243 - eight (02/15/2013) [-]
Nobody thinks they are doing it with only taxes. They do it with laws, regulation and big business. The government rules the people, but corporations rule the government.

The main problem I have with where my tax money goes is when it goes to people who are on welfare for extended periods of time without trying to get jobs, out of debt, etc. Other than that I'm pretty much fine with it.
#247 to #243 - geopex (02/15/2013) [-]
IMO
I think Americans are more upset that 54-59% of their tax dollars go directly to the military while the companies and banks that wrecked the economy in the first place get billions upon billions of dollars in bailouts and subsidies. All the while things like education and infrastructure are being cut.

Throw in a two-party system where the government is in constant gridlock, and it is darn near impossible to get another party into even state government, and you have quite the royal mess.

fair enough, I suppose that is true, Alot of the money does go towards the military which isn't needed right now. Hopefully when obama finishes pulling out the troops he cuts the military budget a little and gives more to infrastructure

Thank you for restoring my hope in humanity. I thought I was the only one who understood taxes do not equal "the government is stealing our money for themselves".

It seems simple enough. I've lived in 3rd world nations with no streets, no water, no police. I am happy to pay a little taxes for all our rights and freedoms and comfortable life!

It's been years since I've heard words like yours. Sad...

Well. I mean, what do people expect? We live in a military country. I may not agree with everything we do, but it is what it is. I really don't believe a country could change it's entire infrastructure and not collapse, at least temporarily. Which is why America will continue to be the Military power of the world. And don't get too upset about that, because there always has, and always will be, at least one military power absurdly powerful, throwing their strength around. Once people learn to accept that, things really don't look so bad.
