Here in Portugal the standards didn't get lowered in general, women have a completely different bar. While for example, men are expected to, in the alotted time, run/jog 5km in full gear, women are only expected to do 1.8km to get the same evaluation mark.

I'll sure as hell trust my life in a combat situation to a comrade who's in the same situation as me with only 1/4 of the effort required to join. Hahano.

Don't get me wrong, in my time in the service I've met some real hardcore chicks who would have no problem in the infantry but a majority would wash out, I'm not trying to talk **** but army infantry training was hard as **** . I just don't see a majority of females making it.

real feminism is supposed to empower women, not tear down men.

remember that.
User avatar #269 to #246 - TheBigGummyBear (02/09/2013) [-]
It seems a bit unfortunate that their method of empowering women is to tear down men. To create equality by making special rights for them doesn't seem logical to me

Feminism is the idea that we can make both sexes equal by focusing solely on the issues of one.
#264 to #259 - anon (02/09/2013) [-]
many different anons here..
i should make an account..

but i wanted to say that operating on equality from just one side is a flawed logic, right? if we focus solely on one, can we fairly say it is equal to the side not being focused on? the side we may have neglected even?
I don't believe we can label equality that way.
#253 to #248 - anon (02/09/2013) [-]
it started with female empowerment.
the point was to make it equal, but by increasing women's rights, not decreasing men's.

nowadays i think feminism is mostly pointless, and i grow tired of hearing women complain about what "society" does to them.
women are half of society.
a little more than half, actually. if they sincerely wanted something, we would see a repeat of the original feminist movement.

>Males disallowed females from participating in a major war
Your point?

Also, during WWII, the American workforce was predominantly made up of women. They kinda held up the country while all the guys where either fighting the war or draft dodging. Fun fact.
#73 - helenwheels (02/09/2013) [-]
I hate the idea of drafting, but we must consider the fact that those who decided to send the males to war where indeed males themselves. Males who decided women where to weak for war.
It wasn't a group of women who decided to send males to war because they're lives are expendable.

Obviously never met him, but when he turned 18 he crossed the border and joined up as a volunteer in the Spanish Civil War, when that was done he integrated the SS as part of the Blue Division (aka Spanish volunteers, even though he wasn't Spanish). And there he went to war.
On the female side of the family, those who met him said he was a retard, on the male side, everyone called him the greatest badass that ever lived. He wrote frequently back home, but then suddenly stopped, so we figured he died.
Who knows though, maybe he married some Russian Chick, or went to Germany when the war ended and spent the rest of his life banging Germanic babes.

Yep, here in Finland all men *have* to go through 6-12 months of military training (unless you're mentally or physically disabled) for which you get paid a fraction of even minimum wage (4.40 euros a day when I served - minimum wage being around 1300-1400 euros/month).

Any feminists here seem to shut up pretty fast when I bring up this point.
#347 to #327 - zzzapped (02/09/2013) [-]
Well that sucks but on the other hand you don't burn much money while you do your basic military service.
I think the wager you get while you do your basic training here in Sweden is similar.
To bad that they lowered it to 90 days and made it non mandatory.
A nation needs a good defense.

Can't we just all agree that the words feminism and (whatever the word is for the male population) are stupid.

These words in themselves are sexist, they only adapt one part of the population, while ignoring the other even though both sexes aren't equal.

isn't there a word for a progress that tries to equalize both sexes to the same level, or am i asking to much? especially while we're living in a time where the difference is almost non-excistant?
User avatar #361 to #350 - thepalmtoptiger (02/09/2013) [-]
The word for a belief that males are superior to females is "Chauvinism."

I agree with you, both are retarded. Both sexes are better adapted to certain things, but with a bit of work, we can overcome the limitations of our sexes. Except childbirth, breastfeeding, and impregnation, you can't overcome that **** .
#364 to #361 - caseris (02/09/2013) [-]
i wasnot looking for the word with the meaning of one of the sexes feeling superior, more for a word with the meaning of ''fixing the rights of the male sex by only adapting the right of the amel sex''

what i mean with this is that feminists are trying to adapt their rights without looking to fix the male sex's rights, not that this means they feel superior.
#365 to #350 - anon (02/09/2013) [-]
I dont think you guys know what feminism means...its a movement that both sexes can be part of for gender equality. so feminism cant be sexist, and chauvanism is not its opposite as it calls for male superiority. Yes, I know that some feminists are real bitches and hate men, but they dont understand feminism. They are just bitches.
User avatar #366 to #350 - dtox (02/09/2013) [-]
The word you're looking for, in terms of equality for all, is egalitarian, which is mainly focused in the liberal branch of feminism, which is what I personally associate myself with.

feminism is made of many branches, all of which have aided greatly in the development of sociology. Radical feminism, which is an official branch, is the one that many people have an issue with. It is a branch dictated by Marxist ideology, and focuses on how male domination originates at the home level, which generates much of the "man hate" by radical feminists.
