anyway, protein is in everything we eat.. people don't need to consume as much protein as they do (on average)

that is all.

i dun wanna play devil's advocate because dammit i'm a carnivore, but i digress, the argument of "meat murder unnatural hurr durr" that vegans put up is actually referring to breeding animals in cages and pens only to die.

it's different to the wild because that zebra probably had a life he expierienced the world, the chicken we eat are mostly born raised and killed in 500mmX500mm cages en masse.

now if you'll excuse me i must venture out and find where i can eat some zebra.

point also being.. we've evolved to beings that are supposed to be better than most in the animal kingdom, yet we behave in much the same manner..
and ps: you're not a carnivore, you're an omnivore; unless you eat nothing but meat, that is.

it is true that murder is natural, so we should all start murdering? good arguments, oottovann

Protein is not one thing but a group of many types of amino acids. These amino acids are much less useful when not together. The protein present in animals are complete proteins, proteins containing a full set of amino acids. Plants and other non-meat substances usually only have incomplete proteins having only a few of the required amino acids. While you can get complete protein by mixing and matching your veggies to tetris a full set, the amount of veggies you would need to eat to even contend with the amount of proteins in your average chicken sandwich would leave you absolutely bloated after every meal.

Long story short, unless you like beans, vegans are not getting their necessary protein.

quite a few of those have gluten as their protein source. Gluten is an incomplete protein.

(02/07/2013) [-]
The only one of those with gluten as a protein source was seitan.

Secondly, combining a carbohydrate with a protein (rice and black beans / potatoes and tempeh / pasta and tofu/ etc) creates a complete protein.

Moreover, black beans are far in superior to meat as far as nutrition goes as covered by WebMD: http://www.webmd. _ com/diet/features/beans-protein-rich-superfoods

Carb-proteins are often advised against unless you regularly workout. But if you do, go for it.

And i have no issue with beans, i love them, but being relegated to 7 adequate sources of protein seems like a minimal solution to something much more easily resolved by meat. And if these are the highest sources of proteins in the entire non-meat world, you'll need 2-3 servings of any of those besides the beans and seitan to match the average meat eater. but ****, if you are this set on making eating a balancing act instead of a scrumptious break, then go for it.

I lost 15 lbs and became stronger after going vegan. Carb-proteins have done me no harm.

Further, if you add meat to those 7 protein sources (which was a small sampling of the available protein sources anyways), you still only have 8.

And no, they aren't the highest source of protein necessarily, those were just some blogger's top 7 favorites.

What's even further is that over intake of protein is dangerous and unhealthy as covered by this website: http://www.livestrong. _ com/article/352257-side-effects-of-having-too-much-protein/

I've had absolutely no trouble being vegan. It's not a balancing act anymore than a non-vegan diet is. You still want some broccoli with your steak, right? You still want a salad before or after you eat a big burger right? People who don't balance their diets, whether they're vegan or not, are always unhealthy. I

And I don't consider eating a "scrumptious break" unless I'm doing it specifically for that. For that I have vegan ice cream, cakes, pies, burgers, chicken parmesan sandwiches, etc.
