Though the joke is funny, it just reminds me of my dad because he doesn't believe people are "insane" or that mental issue are real because, "back in his day" it was just being sad or a spaz. And how nowadays, some people still don't believe most forms of mental illness are real.

Granted, I hate people who scream "OCD!" or "ADHD!" when they don't have it but still. . .

A lot of people don't believe it's real and think they just make that crap up, both people, and the government so they can have more medication.

Well, I have ADHD, and a lot of people don't think of it as a real disease and that the kid just needs to calm down. But then theres the fact that depression and other such insanities actually run through my dad's family.

My sis hears voices, my brothers sane (now), and one of my aunts succeeded in suicide. Plus, I have become friends with people who also have some mental issues like that or did so in the past.

Oh, we're all fine. Just bugs me wen people don't think they're real or mock it or pretend they have it. So it's all good.

Nice talking with you though.

In a way it might have been. People who have been around since the first world war experienced the changes the world and society went through. Many of them say that the first world war was a great turning point.

The world was a lot simpler back then, so people were less stressed. Easier to be happy with less stress. Today the world has and is increasing in complexity. People today experience more stress than ever before.
In certain developing third-world countries, people with mental issues like we see today were quite rare untill recently. You were either completely crazy or fairly normal and rarely seemed to be inbetween, but due to stress (and probably other contributing reasons) people are developing all kinds of issues. In the past you probably would have had a hard time to find a job as a psychologist in such countries, but today they're considered more casual.

Third-world countries are generally much more simple than first-world countries. First-world countries have a much higher suicide rate. So yea.... In the past life was a lot simpler and people were generally happier. So in a way "Their day" probably was better.

Sounds like 90's kids. 90's kids are annoying too when they always rant about that stuff.
User avatar #7 to #5 - angelious (02/06/2013) [-]
would not the same apply to 90 kids???
#130 to #7 - Visual (02/07/2013) [-]
Yes actually.

It's not bad to reminisce about the fun days back in the 90's. But for ****** sake, things have improved and they just beat everything from the 90's.

It's not bad to have a nostalgia trip or just remember the fun, but don't start being a cunt about it and saying everyone has stupid taste for new things to look cool.
#133 to #130 - krumpetking (02/07/2013) [-]
except the kid's shows were better back then. For srs.
#185 to #133 - Visual (02/07/2013) [-]
Yeah true, I can't argue with that.

I think the main reason they're so horrible today is because we've grown up and don't watch new cartoons anymore. So the cartoon industry knows that kids today are more stupid and cater to their stupidity with bland shows that have senseless humor.

but I don't feel compelled to go "RMEMBR 90'S SHOUWS???? LIKE/THUMB IF U RMEMBR"

No, I mean anyone whose day is gone and they won't shut up about how it should revert back to their day.

I was considered ADHD for a while. Since then i started talking to an actual Psychiatrist and Psychologist. Turns out it's PTSD with depression! Woo!

Honestly it's done me a world of good just figuring things out, no medications or anything!

eh. sort of like people with ADD. I have been taking Concerta for my ADD since like 1st grade I think. It helped alot but I didnt notice it....my teachers and my friends did. I have also been in counseling for it since 5th grade. I did not really start to become aware of it's actual effects until like junior year of high school. I would start to think of some of the things that I would typically do off of my pill and then on my pill and that's when it clicked in my head. When I was on my day wear I forgot my pill I would think alright just take it easy and pay attention. I'd start to day dream or get off task and I would notice and click back to what's at hand and it was basically like I was on my pill. I still take my pill just for good measure though being a freshmen in college.

Moral of the story is all this **** on ADD is soooo blown out of proportion. Sure, when the person is a child they won't give 2 ***** or try to control it so medication is the only other solution. When you get to a certain age you need to take responsibility and get off of the dependency of the meds. It's not as serious as everyone makes it. You can control it on your own....you just have to give a **** and want to make a change.

There wasn't as many "behavioral disorders" because kids would get smacked if they were bad. Nowadays kids run rouge around the city without an adult to tell them to not be an asswipe.
User avatar #154 to #147 - threeeighteen (02/07/2013) [-]
I was never smacked myself as a kid, due to that, when I have kids I'll be running a tight ship when it come to shenanigans.

We were 6 children (oldest sister died 4 years ago). The "old four" which were my older brother, my 2 elder sister and little me educated ourself by smacking eachother if one of us ****** up. May it be bad mouthing or betraying the others by telling our parents something we shouldn´t have done. But now my two little brothers, well actually to be precise, my littler younger is a complete asswhipe. You know, being a complete ******* dick, telling me (I´m 20 btw) to **** off ´n **** and when I confront him how much of a ******** he is, he runs with tears in his eyes to my mothers who, of course, blames me for being an ass to my brother.

mfw I experience this situation everytime

I believe in it if that kind of stuff if there's evidence. If there is low serotonin because of the depression, or depression due to low serotonin (so, either giving the same result when tested), then that's that. Low on happy stuff = less happy. Can't deny that. However, when people say "Oh no, there are other kinds of depression as well." they can **** off.
#117 to #109 - anon (02/07/2013) [-]
anon here wasting my one comment an hour to tell you that's exactly what your doing and it's pretty dumb that people feel the need to sympathize with you at all.
