Is this for real??. Anyone from Norway? IS this real? www.facebook.com/DouchebagGandalf. Prison at Norway. I'm norwegian, and yes it is. Instead of focusing on punishment, we focus on rehabilitation. Prisoners in norway are much easier to integrate to the society out

we in norway bellive in rehabilitation and not furthering ones delinquency

i was on a welders course and we had a guy there that had been to jail, he used to be adicted to alchohol/drugs but he was rehabilitated and he seems really kind (he is kindof a badass too)

Prision is suposed to "reabilitate" the individuals, and they're doing it right.

Compare Norway's crime rates to the US's, and you'll see why this works. Statistics are as of 2011

Norway: ~20% recidivism (arrested/incarcerated again), .6 intentional homicides per 100,000 people, 71/100,000 people behind bars.

US: 67% rearrested, 52% jailed again, 5 (notice lack of decimal point) intentional homicides per 100,000 people, 743/100,000 behind bars (actually highest incarceration rate in the world, BEATING CHINA.)

Source: thinkprogress.org/justice/2011/07/25/277771/norway-is-safe/

So, tell me again how this is ******* injustice and intolerable, just because Norway's criminals are treated like people, not animals?

I can see why this works! Also, I might do bad things to get IN there. Think of it. NO RESPONSIBILITIES! NONE! ZIP! ZILCH!

Fantastic if you ask me.

if you dont mind, could you tell me why Norway uses this strategy with their prisoners or what do you think it is.

My guess would be that probably in Norway people can live with the jobs they have (or at least they are satisfied with them) and thus don't return to prison. But if this would happen in my country, i'd say the people would want to stay there and probably would commit crimes again.
User avatar #763 to #762 - MysticTomatoe ONLINE (02/06/2013) [-]
I forgot to mention, I think its great to treat them like this because either not all of them committed a crime with malicious intent, or its a good way to show them that you can get along with anyone if you treat them well

We've got a problem with criminals from other countries, as they don't mind being imprisoned in Norway.

Norwegian Citizen on the other hand.. We've got one of the highest standards of living in the world, and it's pretty much impossible to get a job if you've been to prison. So... meh. Not worth it.

Oh I see, that clears it up, thanks

I do not believe in rehabilitation at all. They had their chance at a happy life BEFORE they killed, robbed, assaulted, etc. After that point I say remove them from society. PERMANENTLY. Why "rehabilitate" someone, and run the risk of them getting out and raping or ********* again, knowing if they are caught they will get to live in a 5 star hotel?
User avatar #735 to #723 - dairybun (02/06/2013) [-]
Hey man, chill. The people I assume you mean are those who intentionally went out to do bad, but you gotta realize a lot of people in a case such as ****** for example, commit it at a moments notice, not malicious intent. What I mean is, yes the culprit intended to do it, but it was the moment of heighten tension which put them in that situation, Imagine if someone ******** one of your parents, you went into a blind rage and killed the person who did it, now normally you weren't such a kind of person, but jsut the sheer strength of the emotions that were going through made you act in an idiotic and pointless manner. Would you not say someone in that kind of situation deserves rehabilitation. That's not the only one, but I'm not bothered to list every single possible reason for someone to be rehabilitated. Just know most crimes are done for a reason, not just because that person wants to watch the world burn.
#732 to #723 - anonymous (02/06/2013) [-]
Because if we in Norway remove somebody from society we'll be so few left that we'll **** our family, and inbreeding is not practical..

I can't say I agree with your point of view though, because repeated crime is much less common in Norway than, for example USA.

And it's not exactly a five star hotel, it's a 2 star one at the most.
And ( I know this may be hard for people on the internet to understand the pain in) you can't see your friends, family, partner, etc. as often any more. You can't travel far either, and you're watched all the time.

the Norwegian prison system is made for rehabilitation so that nonviolent criminals don't become violent criminals as opposed to the american prison system which is focused on retribution, which doesn't work for **** in the real world.
User avatar #739 to #719 - shadowsynergy (02/06/2013) [-]
It does if you ******* kill them, I believe in being given a penalty equal to 2x your crime.
If you pickpocket 30$, you get a 60$ fine. If you beat someone half to death, we ******* kill you.
User avatar #718 - takers ONLINE (02/06/2013) [-]
Is no one else as angry as I am about people such as ********* and rapists being treated this well??The whole point of prison is to punish people..I'm just saying..imagine some ******* who ******** somebody close to you gets treated like this, that wouldn't be fair. Where's the guilt? The repentance? The justice?
#712 - anonymous (02/06/2013) [-]
prisons in norway are meant as rehabilitation facilities, where people with problems go to get fixed. that is the reason for all those activities, they don't want crazy people to turn more crazy
#711 - anonymous (02/06/2013) [-]
I'm pretty sure this is true. I'm not from Norway myself, but here in Sweden our prisons are kind of like this. Wouldn't surprise me if they are similar in Norway.
#706 - imofcnotharveydent (02/06/2013) [-]
okay so this is true to some degree, however this is probably the best prison, we got a lot of worse prisons just for the record. And if this is our prisons, how do you think our schools are and general lifestyle ;D

The sad truth is that we only got rich on oil.

In Norway we belive in rehabilitation:)

Becuase when some shoot down 80 people and yells death to all who support black people he can be rehabilitated right`?
User avatar #727 to #699 - rumpelstilzchen (02/06/2013) [-]
The principe of rehabilitation is much better than just locking the people away from society.
If someone commited a crime, it's necessary to help him finding back to the "righteous path", so he - maybe - can start a new life some day. If you just lock him away, you cancelled all hope for him.
But in case of Breivik I can understand your point. This man is deeply disturbed, and there should have been prevention so he never got such a sick mind.
User avatar #742 to #727 - nikkomothafucka (02/06/2013) [-]
I know, rehab is better then lock and load

but yeah there is diffrent people who deserv other treaments
User avatar #702 to #699 - thedutchs (02/06/2013) [-]
At least it's better than putting a pot-dealer with a bunch of ********* , rapists, arsonists so that he can become one of them.
User avatar #741 to #702 - nikkomothafucka (02/06/2013) [-]
Yeah but not if some one killed many people in terrorism and not just a ****** or rape that is diffrent:)
