I freaking adore this game. Last Saturday the card was "(Blank) plus (blank) equals (blank).", the 3 I put down were "Electricity", "Mother Teresa", and "10,000 volts straight to the nipples."

"If you want to destroy a man, give him everything his heart desires".

Possessions do not equate to happiness.

I'm pretty sure that if I could have everything I wanted, I would be pretty happy.

I'm pretty sure if you got everything you ever wanted you would want more. Thats the trap society has set us all up for. It's all about the latest fix and satisfying our envious tenancies. We think that if we can just get this or that we'll be happy but really it just moves us up through the social tiers and once we advance, hey we still have less then that guy.

It will never end, you'll chase and chase after materials and possessions and you're piles of stuff will put you on a pedestal that reaches nowhere. You'll die, fools will inherent what you spent your entire life working for and you will be forgotten.

Live for something eternal bud. You may be jealous of all the celebrities that "have it all" but at the end of the day no one wants to be Brittany Spears or Linsey Lohan. Oh, and don't kid yourself saying "I wouldn't be so foolish". You wouldn't be the first. Everyone labors in vain because everyone dies and everything with time turns to dust.
User avatar #14 to #11 - blademontane (02/04/2013) [-]
I would say "I wouldn't be so foolish" as I seem to see a trend that most of the people who won big on the lottery are unhappy as they spent it all really quickly or were alienated by their friends.
If I had enough money to live off very well for the rest of my life, say £30,000,000, I would stay in the same house I live in now, buy things I want but I never buy things I don't need. I would have awesome holidays with my closest friends around the world but still live as simply as possible.
Anything I have left after I die will only go to the people I choose worthy of my fortune, not fools who can't understand restraint.

Do you believe in God?

If you don't that's just fine, if God doesn't exist then you have nothing to worry about. The life you are describing would be ideal by everyone's standards. Death, being the common denominator would put the rich and the poor, the wise and the foolish in the same grave. With no eternity then you literally just lived "life to it's fullest". Me, the Christian, and you the...whatever you are, will both be eaten by worms. Pretty fair.

However, what if God is real? This is what I was getting at when I said you should live for something eternal by the way. Then the outcome is different, your perfect life also ends the same way as it would but where does your soul go? If you lived a selfish life (meaning not for God) then God would send you to be off to a place without him for eternity.

These are serious things to think about. To often people say that later they will investigate religion but no one is promised tomorrow. If God is real then your soul has an eternal destination. If you live your life running away from Jesus then that's where you'll end up, as far away as possible.

Once you're there you'll see clearly you made the wrong decisions and should not have lived as such. You'll trust Jesus then that he was everything he said he was and you'll say "Jesus I believe you now!" but you'll be no different, because everyone in that place believes.

Why should I make myself unhappy to please a God that may or may not exist? If I want to live happily, why should God punish me for it? Besides, by my logic, it is impossible for anything to be all powerful and therefore there cannot be an omnipotent God.

Think of this. If God is all powerful, can he create a boulder, that he himself cannot lift? This paradox pretty much proves omnipotence is impossible.

Oh yeah and the bolder thing, God created that thought just as he created the person who thought it. If He is all He says he is you really think we are above His understanding? xD

Who says you'll be unhappy? Where does it say in the bible God wants us to all be wearing white tunics locked up in a monastery singing hallelujah? The following is an explanation of what God purposed us to be.

God created humanity to glorify Him. That's right, Him, not ourselves. Adam and Eve did just that, they lived without sin, perfectly, a lot like Jesus actually except they were fully human. Without sin they could be in perfect community with God, which is short for saying that they got to hang out with him. As you know they sinned because they ate the apple and that created separation because now man was sinful and God can't stand sin.

Now were all sinful and in need of a way to reconcile ourselves back to God which He did through Jesus. God wanted to be with us so desperately he came down in the flesh and bore all of humanities' pain and death. He loves you and wants the best for you. Yeah he has a lot of rules but so does any father wishing to protect his son from harm.

I'm not trying to convert you. I don't have that kind of power but Christ calls His followers to show compassion and reach out to others. Your soul has an eternal resting place; If if turns out I'm wrong no big, I'll die happy and feeling fulfilled. Really I just want you, and anyone reading this to investigate, that's all. Because at the end of the day eternity is forever and we are on this earth for a snapshot of it. Can you really afford not to look in to it at the very least?

"God created humanity to glorify Him" Isn't that Pride? One of the seven deadly sins?

If God is all knowing, shouldn't he have known that Adam and Eve would eat the apple? Also you implied that living life to the fullest was a selfish life lived. If God loves everyone, he shouldn't punish those who choose to live a life not worshiping him.

Actually it is prideful, and God does get angry and even jealous sometimes so you're right. However, it's not sinful. The difference between us and Him is that He is holy (meaning without sin) and therefore everything he does isn't sin. So when God gets jealous over people loving the things He gave them rather than loving Him Himself, He gets jealous and that's okay for Him. It's unlike the way we get jealous for people because it is for our own sinful motives and fulfillment. When we get jealous we don't look out for the others best interest, we are only looking out for our own advancement. God doesn't think that. He wants whats best for you and so feeling He produces, whether it be pride or jealousy, He is righteous to do so.

Also, specifically pride. We have nothing to be proud about because everything we have comes from God. You can't even be proud that you can breath because God breaths the air in to your lungs. God is perfect though and He created the universe. He can brag all He wants.

Adam and Eve. Like I said God created everything for His glory, including ourselves. He set the stage so to speak for their fall in to sin so He could reconcile them back to Himself through Jesus. He did this for HIS GLORY like anything else. It's much more glorifying for sinful man to reject sin and accept Christ than it is to mindlessly make people love Him.

If man was created, free will cannot exist as all actions are just sparks passing between brain cells to make choices.

If God created me, he created me to choose not to believe in him and therefore cannot punish me for it. It would be like throwing a rock at a window and punishing the rock for breaking it.
#26 to #25 - anon (02/05/2013) [-]
Free will does exist, in fact you make all your decisions. That doesn't mean however that God doesn't know what you are going to decide. He knows you so intimately, better than you know yourself. In fact he knows you so well he knows what choices you were going to make before you were even conceived. That being said people are predestined to hell. It says in Romans 8:30 "And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified."

It is an unfortunate unfair reality that people are predestined for heaven and hell. I even struggle with it sometimes. However you do make the choice to run from God. Should that mean God should create everyone so that they chose to accept Christ before their death? Absolutely not, God does not owe us anything. He created everything to perpetuate His glory and put us right in the center to witness and give Him praise for it. Its up to Him to decide in what way events in the world unfold to maximize His glory.

We feel so entitled to be just given a happy life and an amazing eternity. For some odd reason we think we deserve it but we don't. All of us are selfish and even the most "moral people" are only moral on that outside "None is righteous, no, not one" (Romans 3:10). No person is "good" or even remotely good enough to stand next to God without Jesus.

Now then, you're going to keep asking me questions and I have most all the answers but will not answer any more, we could go forever. I know you don't want to accept what I'm saying because if it's true then you are in a very tough spot. I suggest you look at the claims of Jesus yourself rather than assimilate to the FunnyJunk community (Talk to a pastor or get plugged in to an investigative Bible study). Critically discern your own beliefs and not just the ones handed to you from a faceless group of kids that post funny pictures.

I just need to say one last thing. Predestined fates by it's definition completely nullifies the notion of free will.
#19 to #18 - anon (02/04/2013) [-]

Seriously, God wants you to live a happy life under his provision. I can honestly say I have had an amazing life since accepting Christ and if it turns out that I was wrong and brainwashed then oh well, I lived a joyful life. If it turns out that God is real then I will have lived a worthwhile life and enjoy an even more joyful eternity.

Not having enough food every single day and basically no healthcare system doesn't lead to happiness either.

Were not talking about basic needs were talking about 3rd world countries. Being 3rd world doesn't mean you're a starving potbellied African child being eaten by buzzards. It means you don't have the conveniences of the first world.
