its pretty cool.
i think it has high replay value, as you can always start over with a different skill allocation order.
#56 to #36 - Jameshaich (02/04/2013) [-]
Nice game, solid storyline although character development is lacking a little.
I'm lifting, you 'miring?
Pretty decent for a shooter, but has very little replay value.
Because you're poor.

Be 'Yahtzee' Croshaw, runs the famous internet reviewing show Zero Punctuation on The Escapist. Spec Ops: The Line was his #1 game of the year, and Far Cry 3 & Dishonored also had places in the top 5 (I had a feeling those three would end up in his top 5, just in a different order).
User avatar #26 to #24 - Lostdemon (02/04/2013) [-]
i ******* hated dishonored i thought it was one of the worst games of the year, but i think Spec Ops was the best game by my own judgement.
User avatar #41 to #26 - theshadowed (02/04/2013) [-]
Just out of interest, why did you hate dishonored?
User avatar #31 to #26 - vladhellsing (02/04/2013) [-]
We're half in agreement there...

Mind telling me why you think as such of those two titles?
User avatar #40 to #31 - Lostdemon (02/04/2013) [-]
Spec Ops - one of the best stories in any game ive played, with the amazing subtlety and character degradation and making actually care about the characters in the game. and the game offers you choices all the time but never needs to tell you because you can already see what you can do with in a dilemma. the game gave me actual feelings of guilt and making me think about what we do as a people today. Game play wise it was fun and functional which isnt a big point but was still nice.

Dishonored - was just dumb, when you first get your powers its from some guy that shows up out of no where that apparently every one knows and every one talks about yet feels like he has no connectivity to anything at all, the game repeatedly bashes on and on and on about the moral choice of the game but then turns and claims it doesnt have a moral choice system and forces choices down your throat constantly with out subtlety. game play wise is just dumb also, sending you into a mission with a goal and a target but then loses all sense of direction because you have to spend most of the time running around trying to get runes and ******** bone charms and doing **** that was no connectivity to the damn mission you were sent there to do. also stabbing people in that game feels like taking a red hot katana and stabbing a vat of boiling butter, while in far cry 3 (which is a better stealth game then dishonored) when stabbing someone it felt hefty, the camera slowed down it took a second to kill them, you heard it ripping though them, not the ****** super fast slippery feeling stabbing in dishonored.
User avatar #46 to #40 - vladhellsing (02/04/2013) [-]
Dishonored was artistic like Spec Ops, just in a different manner. You're asking for 'realism' in a game set in a fictional fantasy world where all the characters look like 1950s news cartoons - of course the stab animations aren't going to be as visceral as in FC3. Whereas in FC3 they were really trying to bring out the brutality in the violence (hence stabbing people with a ******* round-tipped machete), Dishonored equips the player with a very thin, very keen blade and has you playing the part of a slick assassin with a focus on stealth, so of course the stab animations will be different.

The runes & charms are entirely optional; once you've got the powers you want for your style of play there's no need to bother collecting all the other goodies unless you're a diligent explorer. The open-ended non-linear gameplay is something we don't see in games very much nowadays and enhances immersion incredibly; making you feel like you're actually in an organic, living city instead of just a tourist there to **** **** up and go home. The pacing and construction of the game world is perhaps Dishonored's greatest achievement - I haven't seen a game world this rich since Thief.

And yeah, moral choice systems are always kind of sloppy. Has any game done them good apart from Spec Ops?
User avatar #57 to #46 - Lostdemon (02/04/2013) [-]
i have nothing against open world and fantasy, dragons dogma is one of my other favorite games of the year, i guess dishonored is just not my pie. i can understand your argument on the difference with the type of blade affecting the stabbing, though still with that in mind it still seems a little to fast but like i said i guess dishonored just isnt my pie.
User avatar #58 to #57 - vladhellsing (02/04/2013) [-]
Mmf, I guess.

Although it's good to see someone else acknowledge the artistic merit and storytelling innovation of Spec Ops: The Line instead of complaining that there weren't enough foreigners to shoot.
User avatar #59 to #58 - Lostdemon (02/04/2013) [-]
the only way i could play Far Cry 3 after play Spec Ops was because i kept telling myself that at least all the enemys are complete and total ass holes. and to agree to your point of people complaining about Spec Ops, its sad really that such an amazing, subtle, and amazingly written and tragic story flew completely over the heads of most people.

i was only pointing out the irony of the statement that vaas was making. because vaas is trying to imply the protagonist is insane and proceeds to try and kill him again expecting to succeed but fails.
