Well OP, you've done it. You have actually maxed out the amount of red thumbs I can give you. I don't know why FunnyJunk has this feature, but you should consider it a blessing. Looking at your comments on this post and others has convinced me that you are, in fact, more close minded than the religious people you are mocking.

Why yes, I am butthurt.

>Implying all christians are the same

really pisses me off when ignorant atheists generalize all Christians as self-righteous people who shove their religion down other peoples throats

Eastern Christians never forced people to attend service and any money donated is still used for charity (also the biggest charitable organization is still the catholic church so don't say that they are just taking money)

ready for the rage of the community and i may have taken my point too far but needed to be said

The original comment generalizes both Athiests and Christians, you're just mad at this guy for being an Athiest, don't be some hypocritical ******* , everyone gets generalized at some point, hell, religion is a generalization that one set of ideals is good for every man, if that were true we would live in a better world.

they build schools in developing nations (albeit religious schools but they provide an education), help build infrastructure, and bring books on various mathematics topics and science topics to developing nations

and to those struggling to survive from the favelas in Rio de Janiero, the Slums of Kolcutta, the bombed out remnants of Homs, to those in the Sahel being swallowed up by the sands of the Sahara: your house is a golden throne, so if your going to try and guilt trip the catholic church for past actions (although they do deserve some), you must acknowledge the hipocrisy of your luxuries
User avatar #61 to #49 - freddyhollensen (02/02/2013) [-]
I wasn't gonna get into an argument, that's why I insta deleted my comment, but whatever.

The catholic church is, without a shadow of a doubt, the wealthiest institution in the world, if you think bill gates is sitting on a lot of money, you should see the 10 times bigger pile below the pope.

Yet, my last girlfriend is catholic and she pays like 3$ for the thing they pass around.

The money goes directly to the priests, people whose job is to tell lies, get more members to lie, get more money, rinse and repeat.

This form a business model is great... If you're that business... but you're forgetting those money could be elsewhere.

If you taught kids to be selfless rather than faithful, you could skip the part were you had to build a stunningly expensive church.

Here's what... If you honestly think the catholic church doesn't care about its own wealth and just want to be a force for good... Enjoy remaining a complete retard.

It's the worlds most successful and tax free business, built on lies, hysterical superstition, and violence & murder or by the least threats of. Built and run by masochists and pedophiles.

No, seriously... enjoy your faith, in day to day life I can somewhat ignore the hypocrisy of the religious, I don't really care that much, but I assume what you wanted was my honest opinion... have a nice life and if you have any integrity what so ever, you should at least try and use your head for a second and ask yourself... Am I being screwed by men in golden suits?
#66 to #61 - lakerman (02/02/2013) [-]
Said before, say it again; i'm eastern orthodox, i don't understand nor care about the catholic church, i am just playing devil's advocate, saying they aren't all as greedy as people portray

we pay money to governments who say they will defend us, who say they have our best interests in mind, yet they do not live like the average american; does that mean that they are as greedy and deceitful as the church

although i agree that the catholic church has had excesses, what organization with power hasn't, governments have risen and fallen with great tales of their achievements passed for centuries, all i'm saying is that you can't ignore it has done great good and great evil for humanity, to focus on only one side is setting yourself up for disaster
User avatar #73 to #66 - freddyhollensen (02/02/2013) [-]
Here's what I'll leave you with... I'm convinced the world would be a far better place, not without churches nor religion ever to have existed, but if churches and religion would seize to exist.

Their time have kind of come, and religion in the western world is no longer anything but an annoyance and a joke.

That somewhat intelligent people run around defending such obviously corrupt and dishonest organizations, thinking they will spend eternity living on a cloud... It's delusional and just plain stupid.

Even though I don't have the most faith in politicians, they actually have a job that somewhat matters, unlike a priest.

What scenario can you possibly imagine were lack of priests would be a problem from a secular point of view.
#84 to #73 - lakerman (02/02/2013) [-]
I respect this but a word a caution; the concept of parallel universes implies that every possibility must exist, so there is an infinite number of universes with god, an infinite number without, an infinite number with the hypno toad ruling over us, etc.

how do you know that this universe is with or without god, and frankly does it matter since there is no way to gain evidence of pre-big bang events due to the fact that physical evidence is impossible to ascertain, due to the fact that there is nothing physical that could exist in this plane of existince prior to the big bang SO OUR ARGUMENT IS MOOT AND ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNO TOAD

and on your question of having a need for priests, in times of great tragedy a GOOD priest who truly follows our doctrine will be willing to offer you shelter, food, and help you rebuild what you have lost, and from a more global and more secular point of view, priests provide sway by providing the possibility of a neutral mediator (Good example is Rev. Dr. Robin Eames who was part the Consultative Group to help patch ties between the North Irish and the U.K in the Troubles, specifically 2009)
User avatar #209 to #61 - teoberry (02/03/2013) [-]
The money goes to three things
1 - Upkeep of the church
2 - Church charity programs
3 - making sure the priest can ******* live

Almost no priests nowdays are masochists or pedophiles.

And no, I'm not being screwed. Sounds like someone had to go to church today with mommy.
User avatar #21 to #19 - prettyflyforaderp (02/02/2013) [-]
he just generalized all atheists the same.
i didnt mean to generalize all Christians the same but alot of them do it and its anoying
#23 to #21 - lakerman (02/02/2013) [-]
But that is the problem, to say that a lot of Christians do something is self defeating when there are so many parts

what disturbs me is few people actually know about denominations outside of the traditional catholic and protestant sects

The eastern church has been accepting to most faiths, used funds for charity ( and has generally been on good terms with other people

tldr: generalizations of Christians are damaging because a major portion is misrepresented and gets treated like the more rigid denominations
