Courage is a scared dog that does whatever he can to protect his home, Nowhere.

Where is Nowhere? Is it the place where there is nothing? No one? No hope? Hell?

Courage protects his home and makes sure no one harms Muriel. His master sits in his chair and hates everything and everyone. Whenever something evil comes to attack or rule over Nowhere, Courage fights back. He keeps Muriel safe and Eustace's home from being destroyed.

Courage will forever stay in Nowhere (Hell) to protect his home, keep Muriel (humanity) safe from evil (Le Quack [greed], Fred [ ****** ], Katz [hate], etc). His master, Eustace (Satan), will rule over and hate all that is Nowhere (Hell).

He is stuck in the middle of Hell and loves his home. He is Cerberus, our courageous, cowardly dog.

I always thought it was just about a dog's perception of the world. Like he thinks any visitors to his house are usually evil. Like how my dog barks and bites at most visitors. When they are actually good, he gets attached to them a little, hes usually nervous around them at first, but grows to like them. (Just like my dog) And their property was so isolated and massive because he rarely left the area, so he thought of it as his world. Everything past it seemed so far away. Yet when they traveled somewhere, they always ended up there instantly. Thusly, they aren't THAT isolated, he just thinks they are. And when he left for anywhere else, even if it's for his owners to get normal things (flan, hair growth stuff, sleeping pills) Courage gets scared. Like when someone takes a dog somewhere and sometimes they get scared for no apparent reason, so they don't take him out much? The characters are so bizarre and overly exaggerated, and Courage immediately knows/thinks they're evil even when their owners think/know they aren't, I just perceived it as a whimsical, scary look at how a small, nervous dog perceives the world. Even if his owners aren't in any danger irl at all.

I like your theory a LOT better.

Gif unrelated.

See, I never got these theories about this show. People keep saying how Nowhere is actually hell or something like that. No, it's literally just a town called Nowhere. Eustace even takes Courage to the main part of the town multiple times. They have a newspaper called Nowhere news.
It's just a town called Nowhere, and creepy stuff happens there.

Why do people do this? Its just a show about a dog that does things for love.

It's kind of creepier to me today
The way the animators changed some things to claymation or 3D makes it feel like it doesn't belong in that world
That's one of the reasons Ramses is so creepy
He was done with low budget CG and it makes his movements strange and unnatural

Looks like a reference to Stephen King's Cujo.
