play rome total war first, it has the basics.

Play as the Romans, and use the hammer and anvil manuever to start. Advanced tactics comes with knowledge of the units

basically just go for whatever one sounds the coolest to you and even if you lose a couple times, eventually everything will come together for you

its not as hard as youd think, its basically the management of civ with the strategic elements of the medieval style warhammers. Basically just manage your resources and remember your common sense when it comes to battle, like flanking, charging with wedge formation, spear over horse, sword over spear, archers are bitches but pwn everything, and so on.

The older ones are easier in my opinion, but the newest ones have all the updated systems. I recommend Shogun 2 if you like the Japanese history, Or fall of the samurai if you like guns. If you wanna try the older ones though, Rome and Medieval 2 are amazing.
