You'd think an all powerful god would be a little less sloppy.

Seriously? This is a perfect example of why organized religion is ******** . According to this analogy, god protects you from most bad things but a few slip past him. Not only does this completely nullify his omnipotence, but it also suggests that people who actually have MAJOR issues (a giant boulder landing on him, rather than a rock) is because god doesn't feel like protecting them as much.

Please someone argue with me, because the best part about religion, is logic always trumps it. At the end of the day, all you're going to say is "well its just what I believe".

John Paul was shot and lived. I don't think you can blame him for not wanting to get shot again.

I know this is a really really lame excuse, but maybe faith in God is trusting him to provide 3 inches of bullet-proof glass.

Let me put it this way: If God gives you something, it's kinda pants-on-head-retarded to not use it.

I'm gonna tell you guys a nice story about asking God for help. I heard it a couple years ago when I had the same type question, and obviously the story is made up.

There once was a man who, when it began to rain more heavily than usual, climbed onto his roof. He then began to pray to ask God to save him from the flooding waters. Minutes pass and a rescue boat comes by and asks him to get in, which he refuses, saying, "I'm waiting on God to come save me." The boat passes on. Another boat comes, and the man refuses again. Finally, a helicopter hovers over the man and lets a rope ladder down for him to climb. The man refuses yet again, claiming that he is waiting for God. The man dies. He drowns as the flood washes over his house. When he gets to the gates of Heaven, St. Peter asks how it was that the man managed to die. The man said, "I was waiting for God to save me, and he never did." God, hearing this man's complaint came to the man and said, "I sent two boats and a helicopter."

The moral of the story is, not everything that is carried out by God seems miraculous, but that doesn't mean that it wasn't God's will. Just because the Pope isn't being physically guarded by Jesus does not mean he isn't being protected, and just because he chooses to use bulletproof glass doesn't mean that he doesn't trust God. It's rather that he doesn't want to test God.

Also, I'm not really sure that anyone believes that it is God's explicit will that the Pope doesn't get shot. I don't even know why anyone would believe that.

then the bullet bounces off and kills the pope

I feel like any intelligent person, that willfully believes in a god, even after knowing every detail of that religion, and still believing, suffers a mental illness.
To believe in such a thing with so many flaws and implausibilities, must make somebody clinically insane.
#145 to #135 - anon (01/31/2013) [-]
Prefer religion over believing that we exist just by RANDOM chance. The flaws are explained by the fact that people might have misinterpreted certain parts or have manipulated it to suit their own needs.Imo its a lot more plausible that there actually is a God than believing that creatures as intelligent as us exist because of random luck in this chaotic universe.
User avatar #150 to #145 - capslockrage (01/31/2013) [-]
No, it really isn't.
And even if there is a deity, I was talking more about religion, rather than just the belief of a higher power.
User avatar #137 to #135 - Keoul (01/31/2013) [-]
Maybe they're just afraid and need something, anything, to cling on.
Regardless of it's feasibility.

It would explain why when tragedy occurs and no one comes to help, a lot of people turn to religion.

A post insulting religion? Better thumbs it up.- Atheistfags
1. Mormons give more money to charity according to Income Tax Returns than any other group of people in the World, Atheists give the least amount of money to Charity according to Income Tax Returns.
2. Atheists mass-murdered over over 300 million people in the World (over 80 million people were mass murdered by Atheists in China alone) last century, Mormons mass-murdered exactly zero amount of people in the past.
3. Members of THE Church Of JESUS CHRIST Of Latter Day Saints believe in keeping the commandments of Jesus Christ, Atheists believe in whatever happens to strike their fancy.
4. Atheists are part of a death-cult, Mormons are part of a life affirming Church. Simple as that.

Mormon : 4
Atheists : 0

God bless.
User avatar #128 to #83 - pootington (01/31/2013) [-]
So, who exactly were these bloodthirsty Atheists that murdered over 300 million people? How can you figure that every single one of these 300 million people actually were Atheist? Even if they were Atheist, does that have anything to do with their actions? Perhaps these 300 million killers were motivated by other things. Also.. death cult?? The **** does that mean?
User avatar #133 to #83 - capslockrage (01/31/2013) [-]
You're talking about one religion, moron.
What makes your religion the right one, when there is so many others?
Anyone who believes in god suffers a mental illness.

Also, Mormons follow a completely ridiculous religion, even ridiculous compared to other religions.

1. We make up a much smaller percentage of the country. However if you look at countries that are more atheistic, you see that they're more peaceful, have higher standards of living, lower crime rates, better healthcare, so on and so forth.
2. Nothing connects those atheists to other atheists, and the people murdered in China, Russia, etc were done for political reasons. However, the holocaust was heavily influenced and even promoted by the Christian Church. Hitler himself professed to be a Roman Catholic, whether he was legitimate or using it to further his agenda, neither say good things about the religion.
3. The commandments of Jesus Christ are outdated, made for another time by people of another time. We live in the present, as do most people religious or not. You however, seem not to.
4. I refer back to the first point. Why are we more peaceful if we're a death cult?

Actually, the bullet proof glass in the pope-mobile is actually designed so you can shoot out, but can't get shot at....
User avatar #14 to #9 - haaaxderp (01/31/2013) [-]
That's physically impossible.

User avatar #19 to #16 - haaaxderp (01/31/2013) [-]
Okay, here's the thing about "bulletproof" glass.
It can resist a 9mm bullet from the front, but not a 9mm bullet from the back.
That couldn't resist a rifle bullet from the front OR back, so it's "bulletproof" to a point.
I take back my previous comment, but I shall leave it so people can know what we're arguing about later on.
It was just illogical to me, and I assumed it was impossible. I shall admit I was wrong, but not completely wrong, since it is only bullet resistant to a certain point.
Have a nice day.
User avatar #24 to #19 - mechaemperor (01/31/2013) [-]
All bulletproof glass has limited resistance to gunshots. That same resistance resides in it shattering to absorb the force of the bullet. When it gets too fragmented, it will eventually break.
