There isn't much more to know on the subject. There is a definite difference between knowing the effects of NOT doing something and knowing the reason TO do something. Also, "the body starts releasing poisons into your body" isn't a very scientific way of putting that, I'd like to know where you got that information.

well not exatly but your body starts poisoning itself after a while. what do you expect man im not a scientist, and not sleeping will kill you, it baliscly starts to melt your brain ive stayed awake for three days and the first one was okay i just played assassins creed for 24 hours, but then by the end of the second day my vision got blury and got major head aches and buy the third day i couldnt even put a sentence together. so ya thats not the only reason you need sleep

Those aren't really reasons you need sleep, though, they are reasons you shouldn't stay awake. What sleep actually does other than "prevent bad **** " is unknown.

so thats a pretty good reason not just that we get tired

but again, it doesn't shine any light on why we sleep or how sleep functions. Not eating will kill you, but we know exactly why that is, and also exactly what function eating serves.

There's a Italian man who wen't without sleep for over 3 months. Nobody could figure out why he couldn't sleep but they suspect the problem was in the center of his brain. He was also part of a wealthy Italian family so they didn't publicly release his name.
