So it's just a plain (titanium) folding knife in a list of quirky and cool gadgets and stuff.

Theres way better knives than the DPX hest. This one is by Brian Tighe for any knife nuts on here.
#69 to #55 - pyroniclol ONLINE (01/29/2013) [-]
Is that actually a good usable knife tho or just for show?
Not saying the knife in the post is anything special (because it's not) but i personally prefer utilitarian knives.
User avatar #71 to #69 - thedungeonmaster (01/29/2013) [-]
It's a $1500 knife so it's up to the owner I guess lol it is technically usable but it's more of an art piece. It's called the tighe coon he makes it in a more user friendly model check out his site he makes awesome stuff.

I never liked OHO's personally, but it is pretty. I am quite partial to traditional knives myself. I am glad to see someone on Fj that knows a thing or two about cutting tools!

Here is a Bartender's knife just to get things started. It is by Ken Erickison.

OMG, worst "want" comp ever!!
like we haven't seen pocket/swiss army knives before, and we already know there is a monopoly for everything.
User avatar #158 - thepalmtoptiger (01/29/2013) [-]
That flip knife looks more or less like any other. Care to explain why I would want that?

What's so special about the pocket knife. I understand the Swiss, but what about the other one?
User avatar #218 to #172 - thewellhungarian (01/30/2013) [-]
It it a high-end production knife that a lot of OHO fans were super amped for. I personally didn't like it when I handled one, but it is a nice knife.

It has D2 tool steel and is very well made. The 2.0 version is a little better, but not my cup of tea still. Here's a link.

Not gonna lie, I gotta stay old school with my knives. I prefer Old-Style Bowie knives.
#221 to #220 - thewellhungarian (01/30/2013) [-]
I like traditional knives myself: Barlows, stockmen, trappers, sodbusters, whittlers, lockbacks, etc. I do not like modern stuff very much, especially the overly-tactical **** .
#222 to #221 - darthjangopwnz (01/30/2013) [-]
I do think the tackiest knife I want is a Bowie knife similar to the big-ass one from CoD.
User avatar #223 to #222 - thewellhungarian (01/30/2013) [-]
Blah. I don't like things like that, but to each his own, right?
User avatar #224 to #223 - darthjangopwnz (01/30/2013) [-]
Yeah. But, I do gotta admit "Modern" knives are really lightweight.
#225 to #224 - thewellhungarian (01/30/2013) [-]
A lot of traditionals are too. Take the Opinel, for instance. It may not be too pretty or anthing, but it is super lightweight, reliable, bomb-proof and very ergonomic. I'm not trying to argue, I'm just making conversation.

Here is a modified one with a moose antler handle (he replaced the wooden handle. The bead is mammoth ivory, I think.). People customize them all of the time to their liking.
User avatar #226 to #225 - darthjangopwnz (01/30/2013) [-]
Yeah. What's your opinion on hidden blades (not like assassins creed) like necklace knives, buckle knives, and cane swords?
#227 to #226 - thewellhungarian (01/30/2013) [-]
They have their uses, but I don't care for 'em. Basically, my philosophy is summed up by this: if my Grandfather would look at it and shake his head, I don't like it (generally).

Now neck knives are a touchy one for me. I like outdoors neck knives like the ESEE Izula, Becker BK14 and so on. They are awesome for backpacking and just the right size. Actual 'necklace knives', however, I don't care for. I am very picky about my blades, hehe.

I do fancy a little creativity and a mixing of old and new. In this pic, you will see a traditional Electrician's knife pattern. However, it utilizes modern materials like G-10, Lightning Strike carbon fiber, and ATS-34 steel (I think it was that steel anyway on this one). This is a custom by Jared Oeser.
User avatar #228 to #227 - darthjangopwnz (01/30/2013) [-]
I kind-of like a certain style of the "Necklace knives", but that's because the style I like are the ones that are crosses with the blade you can pull out. I like them because I am somewhat of a christian, but I like having protection on me at all times. (Just in case)

Now for a funny story. I remember once going to (I cant remember if it was a bass pro or a cabela's) with my friend and seeing the "Bear Grylles" knife for the first time and leaving a little note above it stating "How am I supposed to drink my piss with this".
User avatar #229 to #228 - thewellhungarian (01/30/2013) [-]
You know, there is nothing wrong with that at all. If you like something, **** whatever others have to say.

I don't carry knives for self defense, I carry knives to make my life easier. The stuff that I like is not suitable to do so anyway, ah well, I don't think I will ever need it.

As for the Gerber BG Knife, that is hilarious, hat's off to you both.

Why the **** would you want tiny watch cufflinks that you would have to twist your arm awkwardly to read instead of, oh, I don't know, a watch?
