Its not burning itself, the fire is from gas that is beneath the glass, the glass just diversifys the burning gas....

So actually its just a decoration.

as it does not burn itself i can be reused as often as you want...

done it.

uhhh... The website I went to made it sound like the glass actually burned. Upon further investigation there were mentionings of gas hoses and things for the installation.

But what is it made of?
User avatar #3 to #1 - chibitalia (01/25/2013) [-]
It's made out of specially formulated tempered glass that is manufactured at over 1200 degrees, giving it the ability to resist ever melting. It's pretty much tempered and filtered for long heat consumption. And it can basically last a lifetime. :3

There are pipes underneath the pieces of glass that release natural gas which you then light.

too bad it's impossible for something to combust without releasing CO2. Description is misleading.
User avatar #42 to #37 - Einsty (01/25/2013) [-]
Sulfur can.
User avatar #43 to #42 - nanapopo (01/25/2013) [-]
ok but it still combusts into something SO4 or something. the point is combustion will always make air pollution
User avatar #49 to #43 - TheMather ONLINE (01/25/2013) [-]
Hydrogen.
Unless of course you count water vapor as pollution.
User avatar #51 to #49 - nanapopo (01/25/2013) [-]
damn it. oh well.
#46 to #43 - anon (01/25/2013) [-]
After a bit of research, fire glass works like gas logs inside a gas fireplace. Thus the source of the flame is really propane, or any other gas fuel source.

So it still produces CO2. The glass however produces nothing, The gas still does.

Well, SO3, SO4 is not possible but you got the point. And CO2 does not much to polute the air and is easily absorbed by plantlife and algae.

But yes, a vast majority of flamable substances can cause polution, for example due to incomplete combustion (lack of oxygen)

I'm not trying to claim its terrible for the environment, just saying that the description was misleading. i dont even know why i care. i need a life.

If it's artificially produced then what energy output was used, because it could very well be far less efficient than wood or charcoal.
