As in past tense? Sorry to tell you this, but they aren't even half way done with it. "They added a better tutorial" is an entirely false statement. We don't know what they will add.

It will likely be what I said in the reply to the comment below.
The new director has said he likes straight forward plot (aka dumbing down).
He has said it will try to make more sense of things which weren't explained in DkS (like poise and the influence of covenants). Note this does not say "a better tutorial."

And he has said it will be "more accessible." Considering it is perfectly possible to play without knowing the all the mechanics which were never quite explained, and without looking into the backstory, the above two changes would not make it "more accessible."
Therefore, more accessible can only mean easier, and hell, From's executives are bending over and pleading for it harder from Namco, so there is no real reason it shouldn't be easier (or at least have an easy setting).
#313 to #129 - Skullyy (01/25/2013) [-]
Having a better tutorial and explaining the items better would make the game more accessible, without taking anything away from the combat. And a straight forward plot isn't bad by any means, a lot of people went through DaS thinking... "why the hell am I doing this." They could EASILY make the plot easier to understand while still having major plot points hidden just like DaS did.

I understand that people like you get off to bashing games before their even out, but can you please take your sick fetish elsewhere? Preferably back to the CoD series or something.
#367 to #313 - anon (01/26/2013) [-]
Now for the actual game, that is if you can keep your vulgarity down enough for an actual discussion.

They have specifically emphasized "accessibiliy," simply adding a bit of text describing covenants doesn't do much to increase that. There are going to be far greater changes. and they HAVE stated that they will be changing the difficulty for the sake of accessibiltiy.
"We plan on making the early parts of the game comparatively less difficult to ease new players in." (Shibuya, 4Gamer interview)

True, this does not demand the game be ruined, but they are CLEARLY changing the difficulty for accessibility, we only wait to see how much. (and really, DkS isn't that difficult to begin with, I beat it in one weekend without using any summons.)
Personally, I'm not trusting From considering all their recent decisons have been business "make me money" decisions rather than "make the best game possible" (Switching to Namco, P2P multiplayer, kicking the series creator off the team to make the game more accessible, the suggestion that DLC is an absolute (and the only reason we won't be having single-item DLC purchases is because Myazaki, the creator, said so before development began "I decided that we shouldn't sell individual items or weapons as DLC"), specifically stating an intent of wide appeal).
I'm going to assume any such damage control remarks are PR-tailored to try to lose as few current fans as possible.
But on I could be wrong (and this is your side's primary fault after ignoring all the personal insults, you declare your view as fact). For the time, I will disregard anything From SAYS only paying attention to what I see. And if it's a terrible game, no big deal, if it's good, I'll be pleasantly surprised. *Insert Yahtzee expectations suicide chart here.* (I don't think anons can post images.)
#366 to #313 - anon (01/26/2013) [-]
Could you take your sick fetish of being an ass on the internet elsewhere?

Look at your side "Stop being a faggot." "How the **** does that make the game easier?" " please take your sick fetish elsewhere." " hop the **** off this bandwagon."
Look at my side
-quoting articles.
-speculation is referenced as such, rather than claimed to be fact ("They added a better tutorial")
-Maintaining civility, at least until you monkeys start the ************* .

The fact is, you think you're high and mighty, but you're the troll. All I and my kind are doing is taking what we know of the game, and discussing it, speculating about it, and trying to find out whether or not the game will be good.
Meanwhile your type is trying your hardest to baselessly attack us for doing nothing whatsoever against you.
#63 to #58 - jinkazama (01/25/2013) [-]
Actually, if YOU were watching the news then you would know that it wasn't said even once that the game would be easier in any way apart from having a better tutorial.
#122 to #63 - anon (01/25/2013) [-]
No, they said they were:
Dumbing down the plot. (bad)
Adding more explanations (ok if done right, I had no idea what poise was during my first run).

and "Making it more accessible" (terrible because "more accessible" would REQUIRE it to be easier).
#132 to #122 - jinkazama (01/25/2013) [-]
Funny because the only thing mentioned about the plot was that it was in the same world. And the game was never said to be more accessible either, just more direct in certain aspects.

Bro, do you even praise the sun?
#177 to #132 - anon (01/25/2013) [-]
(Quotations of director Tomohiro Shibuya in the Edge interview)
"I personally am the sort of person who likes to be more direct than subtle."
“[Dark Souls II] will be more straightforward and more understandable.”
"I intend to make it more accessible to players."

Nope, you're right. No one ever said those things. I'm just making a fool of myself.

True, this does not guarantee a terrible game, but add in booting the creator of the series and all the profit whoring happening between the higher-ups of From and Namco (who don't give a **** about good games, just profits), if DkS2 turns out to be good, it will be sheer coincidence.
User avatar #186 to #177 - Brucis (01/25/2013) [-]
Edge's interview was garbage. 4gamer did an interview with both Miyazaki and Shibuya and there's little-to-nothing to worry about. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=505206

In case you're lazy, here's a snippet.
You spoke about already having a large fan base, but how are you planning to adjust the difficult in Dark Souls II? To be honest, I can’t help but think that the needs of your existing fans and that of new players might be conflicting.

Just as you say, it’s a difficult proposition. That’s why we plan on making the early parts of the game comparatively less difficult to ease new players in, and then at a certain point, we’ll tell them “this is where the real game begins.”

So, a “The real Demon’s Souls starts here.” type of thing?

Exactly. In reality, I’m sure we’ll get quite a few new players with Dark Souls II, but existing players will probably represent the majority, so we need to make sure we satisfy their needs.
#253 to #186 - anon (01/25/2013) [-]
Eh, I'm not so sure about that.

Dark Souls already was easier than Demon's Souls (in the sense that the difficulty curve was much shallower, even if it was more difficult over all). If they do it as mentioned in that interview... Well they will either have to have a sudden jump in difficulty, or make the game easier over all.
I suppose removing things like the Black Knight from the starting area could be counted as "easing players into it," but, with this clearly maximum-profit driven direction, I'm still not going to trust From until the game comes out and is good.

How did you have over 10 "line breaks" (enter)? When ever I try to use readable formatting, FJ yells at me.
#256 to #177 - jinkazama (01/25/2013) [-]
Edges interview was translated badly purposefully to get more views and generate a ********* . I won't explain much more since Brucis already did.
#267 to #256 - anon (01/25/2013) [-]
your statement was:
"Funny because the only thing mentioned about the plot was that it was in the same world. And the game was never said to be more accessible either, just more direct in certain aspects."

And as we see from my quotations, you are wrong on both counts (regardless of difficulty).
#372 to #267 - jinkazama (01/26/2013) [-]
But the edge interview was wrong, destroying all credibility someone quoting it has you buttmunch.
#402 to #372 - anon (01/26/2013) [-]
Can you prove the Edge interview was wrong?
I don't think anything in the 4 Gamer interview directly conflicted with what we heard in the 4 Gamer one.

And that's an entirely different argument anyway. You said that no one ever stated that the game would be more accessible, and that they never mentioned anything about plot other than it being in the same world.

And as we have seen from my quotes, they said both.

Or if you would prefer, 4 Gamer quotes, there us Brucis', showing that they do plan to make it easier and therefore more accessible. Whether this will harm the game or not has yet to be seen, but they have directly said they will make it easier to attract new players (aka, make it more accessible).
And plot wise, I don't recall anything specifically saying it would be more straight forward, but that's still a pretty big point in the Edge interview.
User avatar #170 to #122 - zombiebacon ONLINE (01/25/2013) [-]
If you pay attention, then they explain everything to you. You just have to look. My first playthrough, I knew about poise and all that because I actually looked on the menu (press the back button on xbox for an explanation of each thing) to find out what each skill does, how it effects me, and how it effects my weapons.
Everything is explained to you, you just have to look for it.
#183 to #170 - anon (01/25/2013) [-]
Well that's how I eventually found out about it, but I was rushing through in my first playthrough because I only had one weekend to play it.

Most gamers however are not the type to read all the text they can find.

#310 to #293 - Skullyy (01/25/2013) [-]
Making the game friendlier to newcomers does NOT mean it will be easier. They are just making it more "accessible", such as explaining what humanity is and does, and so forth. God I wish people who hop the **** off this bandwagon.

You spent hours farming to make boss battles a walk in the park. You're not a hardcore gamer unless you've played Dwarf Fortress. You think you can handle the realm of dorfs? You are not prepared.

You will find out what true pain, suffering and frustration are. You will find out what it feels like to have all that you have worked for be taken away from you in the blink of an eye. You will see more death and decay than any mortal man was ever meant to see. It's going to take you over a week just to figure out the UI. You will know what it's like to never be able to win, no matter what you do or how many sacrifices you make. You think you can handle my realm?

Firstly, the game has to be as simple as possible. If it had a proper UI or actual graphics, it'd be unable to run on a computer over at NASA. Still, you could download a mod that adds graphics and the UI, but it makes it look like a ****** flash game, in my opinion.
