Laughable. Really. Just goes to show the terrible quality of education these days. If the only period in history you know anything about are the last 100 years, then go **** yourself up the ass and refrain from posting ******** . The Germans actually persevered and succeeded over the centuries. They thrived: the Germanic tribes built up a large peaceful Empire, in the Middle Ages German was the language of European commerce and German craftsmanship was renowned throughout the continent. Even after the disastrous foreign interventions in the Thirty Years War, which permanently and greatly weakened the Holy Roman Empire, the Germany (in the vise of the German states) managed to free itself from Habsburg, French, and eventually even Russian domination mostly by the unifying (or imperialistic) ambitions of Prussia which was led by the Hohenzollerns, the finest Royal-noble Haus the world has ever seen. In short, no it's was not a chronicle of failure and mistakes. Now read up on American history. What have we accomplished in the past 300 years other than being absolute dicks to the Indians (manifest destiny), Canada (1812), Southern and Central America (Monroe Doctrine), ourselves (Civil War), or being massive dicks to the Europeans by becoming involved in the First World War then allowing Britain and France to dominate World Diplomacy by returning to isolationism. After the second world war we sponsored dictatorships, fought a dirty war in Vietnam (thank god we were our own jury on that one), backed the Contras, allowed Pakistani nuclear proliferation, helped further destabilize Afghanistan by giving arms to the wrong group of Mujahedeen, not to mention got engaged in Iraq for some reason. This in terms of politics.

"...the Germanic tribes built up a large peaceful Empire"

What'cha mean no? Charlemagne didn't exist right? And the Holy Roman Empire was fairly peaceful barring its response to eastern invasion.

The holy roman emire has a huge history of aggressive wars and crusades. Oh and ever heard of the 30 years war? Oh and charlemagne? Not to forget his conquest against the langobards and the crusades against the maurs. I'm not saying that is all negative. **** , it's the middle ages. That's how it was.

Yeah thats the point. It was the middle ages! Ok fine lambast me for the peaceful bit, but the rest stands. And I meant it in RELATIVE terms.

I also do not agree with you're views in the history of the US. The US has accomplished alot in the last 300 years. The germans and other europeans were also dicks to the natives of Africa,North america and south america. I myself as an halfgerman am thankfull to america for what they did after WW2. What about the huge amounts of money they put in all the damages that "we" were pretty much responsable for. You see what happend to the part of germany that was under Russian controll.

Well I undoubtedly exaggerated - I was trying to make a point. And I never did claim that the Europeans weren't imperialistic as well. And I didn't say anything about the immediate postwar period in Europe did I? Undoubtedly the US has done much - I admit I overreacted. What I was trying to point out is the moral hypocrisy of our leaders which is used to justify things like Iraq, and Afghanistan, and Libya, and Iran and so on and on and on and which therefore invalidates OP's claim about another country's history. And for historical accuracy, the Spanish did far Worse in South America, the British far worse in India, the Franco-Belgians far worse in Africa, the Japanese worse in China, Korea and South East Asia, the Russians in Ukraine and Poland, the Germans in Poland, the Italians in Abyssinia and all this within the timeframe in which the USA existed. Are you satisfied?

In cultural-economic terms our achievements pale into non-existence. Germany developed modern commerce and finance, key mining techniques, the foundations of metallurgy, the printing press, Protestantism (i.e. the triumph of the individual over absolutist centralist Papism). Furthermore after a century of economic irrelevance due to France’s huge population and England’s pioneering of industrialization, Germany created and led the second industrial revolution which brought us into the modern world. Up to 1933 Germany was the place to be for Science, Mathematics, Literature and Art – look at all the great German scientists and mathematicians whose name will grace our textbooks forever. And Germany was even the most tolerant place in Europe, in particular with regard to the Jews, who fled West from the Russian pogroms – & British anti-Semitism was still strong even up to the 1960’s. Why was Hitler able to use the Jews as scapegoats? Because they had for the most part been successful in integrating themselves into German society and many had become respectable and successful members, angering a minority of unsuccessful and hence jealous race-mongers. No the fundamental problem in this past period of German history has been jealousy – Hitler and his crew ruined Germany for 50 years and the French never quite forgot the successful and justified annexation of Elsaß-Löthringen stolen by the French in 1689.

You won`t find any appreciation for truth here logan, American media has bread a silent hatred for German strength and ingenuity (sometimes not so silent). History as they say is written by the victors.

Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you a man who can't take a joke. Please hold your shock and disbelief, as he may have more to say.

Though I will admit I feel slightly stupid having gone over all the comments and seen that people have adressed the issue in a far more compact manner. Bugger :(

I'm glad you've at least conceded that. This isn't a place for serious discourse in any context. People come here to get their daily dose of funny, though it may not seem that way. I'm glad you've provided evidence about the glory of Germany's past, and I'm aware of other countries having similar atrocities commited to their people (The U.S. and Slavery/Indian treatment/internment camps in WWII, South Africa's apartheid, many European countries' conquests for gold, glory, and God), and I realize that Germany does not only have "we dun fukd up" in their textbooks. All I came here for, and I assume the same for most people on here, is to laugh, especially at other's pain and suffering. I believe there's a term for that... schadenfreude.

Good post. I will not make the same mistake again :) It costs too many red thumbs. Schadenfreude indeed!

Good job. Its much easier to be sarcastic than it is to actually write an argument isn't it? And in case you hadn't noticed, I am far from the only one posting serious **** . I welcome you to take a long look at your anus.

Now I don’t in the least mean to denigrate the American people or our constitution, I am pointing out that our politicians were, and still are, a real bunch of dicks. That and that as our country only has a 300 year history, we cannot have done too much of great historical importance. Our economic rise was fairly inevitable given our huge landmass, fertile agriculture, abundance of natural resources, massive coastline, and hard-working people, but the Germans, and the Prussians in particular, made it against all the odds. Brandenburg was unfertile, landlocked, one of dozens of small German states, but it made itself relevant through the wisdom of its margraves, and by the genius of its Kings Brandenburg-Prussia transformed itself into the leading power in Europe and this is why I admire the Prussian spirit of efficiency and service so much.

I am not butthurt and am not German. Though I do plan to possibly work there: at least I won't be blundering into the dark like OP.

P.S. What I am doing is merely pointing out that OP is a faggot. How does this make me butthurt?
