"It's" does need an apostrophe in this instance.


"...when clearly it's (it is) the "colored" one who..."
"Its" is used when speaking of something's properties. Like, "The red car had its stereo stolen by a ******."

Correct. Also, the possessive form does NOT get an apostrophe, defying logic just SO hard.
