unobtainium may be the lamest name for any fictional extra terresttrial metal ever.

It's usually the raw word for the thing that the people try to get until they come up with a name for it.
In Avatar, they didn't give it another name. So yeah, you're objectively right that it's the laziest name ever, cause it's like calling your character "Hero", your villain "villain", the sidecast "sidecast #1", "sidecast #2", etc

Maybe it's because it's unobtainable?

Immortal means that it can't die. It's really that simple.

immortal in a biological sense just means it can't die from old age.

there are several species of animals that are immortal, but they can still die from disease or trauma

It depends on which sense you are referring to. In general terms, immortal means never dying, as in it can never die from anything thrown at it. But in biological terms it merely means that time itself won't be the cause of it's eventual death, there has to be outside factors like disease or trauma to kill it.

Maybe it's biologically immortal, like lobsters. They've got stuff which "replenishes" their DNA or something. They won't die until they're eaten, cruhed, or whatever it is.

*over 5000 years. it's like how a square is a rectangle but a rectangle can't be a square. immortal is over 5000 years, but 5000 years is not immortal.

but what do i know, this iscoming from the same guy who changed Trixx cereal into puffs.

Since when did it become impossible for a rectangle to be a square??

a square needs 4 equals sides. a rectangle just needs 2 pairs of 2 equal sides.

Read it carefully next time. He showed a picture of one that has lived for 5000 years, but later on he mentioned that those trees are immortal.

Read what ffx said, or, I shall explain it for you.
OP gave an exampl of one tree that has lived for 5k years.
That was an example of one tree.
Now, speaking of the community of that tree type as a whole, OP said they are imortal.
Alright? Alright.
