Considering nobody has to live with the consequences of losing their bending, Mako screwed over a girl that only helped them throughout everything and even turned on her father to do it. Korra hit god mode (full avatar access and the ability to give and take bending) and the main antagonist was blown up on a boat. I don't really think the show is going to be worth watching any more sorry.

TL/DR I'm pretty sure they ruined the entire show with the last episode.

you do know they weren't sure whether they'd be renewed for a second season so they wrapped up everything while leaving openings to expand on new characters and story arcs, right?

LOK isn't like TLA. Each season has its own story.

Im sorry if this post gets kinda long, but there are three ways to look at this: 1. Its a natural inborn talent some people have, such as singing, in which case Korra isnt able to bestow bending on a non-bender any better than a singing coach could teach someone with no voice to sing. 2. Its genetic, and therefor the potential to bend could lie in pretty much anyone in the avatar world, since the prevalence of benders almost garunteees everyone has at least one bending ancestor, giving Korra the ability to give everyone (in theory) the ability to bend. 3. Bending requires a physical and spiritual side, which is confirmed by both A:TLA and TLOK, as Aang learns from the Lion Turtle that bending originated as the people bending their spirit, or "Chi", and Korra is unable to air bend due to her having very little connection with the spiritual side of bending, but is able to bend the other three quite well due to being a prodigy with the physical side. In this case, we can assume the physical side can be trained like any other physical ability, such as weight lifting, so all that would be needed is the spiritual side, which as the avatar Korra can easily provide. I find 3 the most likely out of the three options, as its the only one that is confirmed in any way by the series, in which case the only reason Korra couldn't give non-benders the ability to bend would either be due to the fact she isnt good enough at spirit bending yet (which considering the second book is going to be called "Spirit" might be the case) or the writers simply dont wish her to have the ability.

It is hinted in TLOA that it is genetic to some degree, as strong benders usually had strong benders as parents. At least if I recall correctly.

I will say I am glad that someone else out there also has really complicated answers to seemingly simple things sometimes. While I didn't experience it here, I have similar trains of thought with other points that are raised.

No offense, but I think you're thinking waaaay to hard about this.
#33 to #30 - yukieirian (01/15/2013) [-]
~Shrugs~ Honestly thats just kinda how i am. I do this all the time with the KH series. I just think it would actually be pretty neat for Korra to be able to bestow bending on other people, especially since there could be 2 entirely new bending types (other than spirit) if the two as-of-yet unnamed books/seasons are named after elements like the first two, and all three books of A:TLA are. This could just be one way this happens. I'm excited :)

It would be really awesome if she could give every non-bender the ability to bend if they wanted to. I mean, it really would suck to be surrounded by people with these incredible abilities and not be able to do it, too.
User avatar #12 - soerd (01/15/2013) [-]
i thought the origin of benders was learning to control chi by observing animals (or the moon in the case of water-bending) so are there people who learn bending easier than others and the "non-benders" find it difficult/impossible to control their chi or are they just born completely without the ability? and is the avatar the only person capable of spirit bending since the lion-turtle who taught him said that before elemental bending everyone bent spirits instead so couldn't anyone learn how? And is it possible to give bending to nonbenders by bending their spirit into some way that lets them bend? also in the end of ATLA he says that he can never get his bending back does that mean it's irreversible or was he just saying that he would never give them back to him?

lost track of myself there for a bit and the structure/grammar ended up terrible but you should get the idea random person reading this.
User avatar #57 to #12 - crazyhindu (01/15/2013) [-]
i think when he said he is never going to get his bending back i think he meant he isnt going to give it back and how else would he get it unless someone else knew how to spirit bend
User avatar #26 to #12 - jabsgreywarden (01/15/2013) [-]
i got it but other benders, down the line, don't have to watch animals and such. just be a bender would be awesome!

anyone know when the new seasons going to be up ?
User avatar #3 - illutvar (01/15/2013) [-]
i think that the next season will be built apon this, giving all people the power to bend and not leaving someone left out. hell, if someone is a non bender and had airbender ancestry, we may have more airbenders
User avatar #2 - esmebuffay (01/15/2013) [-]
I actually wonder if she could make anyone a bender in this way. That's an interesting thought, theoretically if you go back far enough everyone in the bending world probably has at least one bending ancestor so I wonder if she could unlock some latent powers. Probably not but it would be cool.
User avatar #35 to #2 - tabascostorm (01/15/2013) [-]
New option for equality? xD

But I always had in mind what the comic shows..since Korra's not questioning so much. She trusts people easiely and that makes it even more easy to take an advantage for yourself. ^^

Bending isn't genetic, it's spiritual.

The original idea of the franchise is that anyone could become a bender. Those who had a natural talent could bend without training though. A big clue to this was during a flashback Zuko had to when he was a kid, he could barely make a flame while is prodigy of a younger sister could bend like she could for years (of course, she was getting trained, but you get the point). This was stated in one of the commentaries by the creators in one of Last Airbender's episodes. Of course, Legend of Korra completely ****** that concept up the ass, so who knows how that stuff works now.

Basically, the concept was a little more fair, but then everything changed when the sequel attacked.

Well Aang and Katara had a non bending kid, so if anything it should be more than possible to unlock bending abilities in a non bender if the ancestry is present.

Well she has the power to close the persons connections to the elements, but non-benders are born with their connections already severed. She also gave Bei Fong her bending back, meaning she opened her connection to the elements back open so I'm sure she can do that for non-benders as well.

Now that Aang can pass down s-bending (fail attempt to keep a spoiler) everyone is ****** .
