Agree with all except yelawolf. I personally do not like him, seems kinda... well, "trailer trash." I'm not hating because he's white, he just seems like a bit of a retard sometimes. Well, I like:
Box Chevy (About him growing up)
Billy Crystal (Creative parable to crystal meth)
Pop the trunk (Life in the ghetto)
And Live is Not Enough (His old girlfriend story)

I consider those deep because it's not just like "party party yea ***** weed and crack ***** bump bump" like I Just wanna party and Daddy's Lambo.

I mean, not philosophical deep, just, creative? you know?

Something to Consider:

Although some of these mainstream artists' songs are complete garbage (i.e. "Stupid Hoe" , etc.), and most people assume they only contain a repeat of profanity, it is unfair to say they all suck. All bands have a song that sucks. Some or most of these artists have some deep songs, some also have some okay songs. That being said though, I have no respect for them, because they have the ability to make good music, but instead choose to make songs like "Stupid Hoe", etc. to make some quick bucks from people who want to feel "badass".

tl;dr, no respect for them, because they have the ability to make good music, but don't, and just make quick bucks off ****** repeats of profanity that they call music.

User avatar #81 to #70 - onceman ONLINE (01/09/2013) [-]
I wouldn't make a serious song, if the topic of said song wasn't on my mind, that's the problem with rock, they make these love songs or sad/serious songs, but they have no experience of the topic or have never thought about it.

Like Lil Wayne wouldn't make a song about driving into a wall to end it because he's never tried it and (I don't think) he's considered it.
User avatar #94 to #70 - taintedangel (01/09/2013) [-]
Sure, all bands have some songs, or even whole albums that suck in comparason to the rest of their works.

Case and point: Tom Petty's new Mojo album is considered to be his worst from reviewers, and it still has more meaning in one of it's songs than anything done by Drake, Lil Wayne, Nikki Minaj, Ke$ha, ect combined. And when people listen to these people's "songs", they become ******* retarded. And that number grows vastly every week, and that scares me.
User avatar #95 to #94 - Yojimbo (01/09/2013) [-]
My point is this, if you went through all their songs, you could find at least 1 or 2 songs that you didn't think were bad. This means they at least have the ability to make okay music, but they don't. Not saying they are great or anything

Or we can stay awake and watch the next day" or "They say love is in the air so i hold my breath till my face turns purple"
Or some decent Drake lyrics like "Sweat pants, hair tied, chillin' with no make-up on
That's when you're the prettiest, I hope that you don't take it wrong" but uh... I can't think of any good Nikki Minaj lyrics, she's awful.

Rap in 1993-"I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up." Tupac-Keep ya head up

Rap in 2012- "All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho
All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho
When I die, bury me inside the Gucci store
When I die, bury me inside the Louis store
All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho
All I want for my birthday is a big booty ho." 2 Chainz-Birthday Song

I really don't care if I get red thumbs for this. I have to stand by my opinion.

I really don't see how people can say that these artists don't make songs that are relatable. How in the hell do you think they're so popular otherwise? Drake is actually a decent songwriter, he has catchy hooks and a very talented rapper. I PERSONALLY think Lil Wayne to be one of the best rappers alive. Yeah, he puts out garbage now but if you listen to his old mixtapes (that were all freestyled) you cannot deny his talent.

DON'T JUDGE ARTISTS PURELY ON THEIR CHART MUSIC! THERE ARE A LOT OF IDIOTS OUT THERE THAT THEY NEED TO EXPLOIT FOR RECORD SALES, SO THEY MAKE MUSIC TO CATER TO THEM! Take time to listen to more of their material before judging. I hate how it's become a fashion to hate on Lil Wayne and Drake.

Everything- a song about his dead father and how he knows that he's watching over him.
Hustler Musik- a song about how people do what they gotta do to make ends meet.
Tie my hands- a song about how everybody was so slow to react to Katrina hitting New Orleans and how there was still people dying and George Bush was choking.
Georgia Bush- pretty much the same.
Novacane- song about his troubles with cocaine and how it was sort of like the love of his life.

People hate on Wayne for having no meaning to his song, when I prove them wrong, "nope not enough meaning, and want him rapping about having to kill his own kid even though he has never experienced it" If Lil Wayne has a serious song it's because that's in his heart and in his mind not because he wants to make people cry.

I like other rappers, Tonedeff, Tech n9ne, Twista, Immoral Technique, Game, Hopsin kinda (don't like when people get famous of other people's fame, it's the easy way out), Pusha T, etc. If you really wanna hate on a rapper then hate on Chief Keef, he makes no attempt to even make decent rhymes. Lateralus- Speaks about how we as humans think in straight lines and need to think in spirals instead such as the golden ratio.
46&2- Human Evolution and its effects on the human mind dealing with the shadow, a layer of the mind between the anima and the ego, all of which takes place inside the unconscious part of the mind.
Schism- Describes what makes us humans and what divide us, focuses on communication and shows what the lack of it can do and how it can harm and "atrophy any sense of compassion".
Hooker with a penis- the only reason I could this song in here is because I know your narrow mind will misjudge it as soon as you read it and assume it's about the hookers with penises. The truth is this song shows how fooled the artists you listen to have you. All you know of them is what they sold you dumbass, so go ahead and buy and send more money. I understand the hypocrisy behind this, which is why as much as I love Tool, I do not worship them like others do with "musicians" today.
I could truly go on until I knock out every track they've recorded, but I think I've made my point. The things you see as "deep" are only viewed that way from your perception because you don't know much else beyond it. I will say however the music you discuss doesn't deserve all the crap it gets, but your respect for music is misplaced my friend.

Dude Tool is one of my favorite bands, 10,000 days and Wings for Marie are genius, and it's about the singer's mom so t's from his own life, he is a very critical person so I really appreciate his views, he doesn't talk about stuff that isn't on his mind. Also, I don't worship Lil Wayne I don't own anything that has to do with him, he just gets a ton of blind hate and I really like him. Just because I like Lil Wayne doesn't mean I don't like music with really well thought out and intelligent lyricism ( I wouldn't say that about Wayne I just think he has clever word play and metaphorts) and I know about their obscure song titles, stinkfist isn't about fisting and the pot is actually about kangaroo courts, I'm not an idiot.

Admittedly Nicki Minaj is terrible, not even going to try to defend her too much. Though pre 2007 Lil Wayne was a great lyricist but then some guy named Tunechi took over and ... ya. But Drake does have great talent as a lyricist and will forever be remembered as one. Plus i dont really think many people care about lyrics, Gangnam style has over a billion views and no one has any idea what hes saying. If you really think the rap game has no good lyricists, listen to a few macklemore songs, i gaurantee it will change your mind.

However, the ones who whore themselves out to make money don't deserve any respect.

Nicki Minaj wrote a song about how she ******* on people...
I am not comparing her to a pedophile but someone who thinks that is worth showing to the world doesn't deserve to be called an artist.
Not to mention putting one meaningful lyric in a sea of repetitious garbage doesn't make a good song.

but those guys are just ignorant, narcissistic and love to use words like 'bitch' 'hoe' ' ****** etc.. i think that if you write lyrics like that you should definitely be judged by it.
