*spoilers* i thought his relationship with leonardo decaprio in the movie was very odd especially because he was a slave. But even in the dinner scene you saw him jumping in on what he would say yet he never mistreated him as he should. Also when leo was shot his reaction was very different than any other slave would of had.

he's the head house slave. A particularly messed up one who holds as much hate for black people as his owners. He thus gains more respect in the eyes of the owner, as he is Leonardo's favorite. This was something not unheard of.

he has a lover, just remember it was a different time, and incest wasn't as taboo, though not necessarily the norm.
