I have a record player that I use from time to time. It's my dad's old one that i found in the basement. Is that hipstery? I don't bang on about it and I just use it because I like the beatles and my dad had a lot of their records.

Listening to a record player: Not hipster
Dragging a record player and a bunch of records out in public and listening to them there: Hipster

The funny thing about me posting this content is.. I use a record player all the time, I enjoy music that a lot of people don't even know(Though I don't really care about it, I just like unpopular music, such as: Swans, Sleep, Father John Misty, Barn Owl etc.) I wear flannel shirts, and I go listen to unknown bands at small bars ... Because I like most of the music that i can watch there and I like a bar way more than clubs. I hope some of you think "So he isn't dissing vinyl, but is he ever the Sherlock Holmes for posting this, and we all do think he's super sexy" and that no one thinks "HE'S A DAMN DIRTY HIPSTER!"

I just wanted to point this out.

No way man. I do the same thing and I wouldn't consider myself a hipster.

I think the fact that it is outside is what makes it hipstery. It's so impractical that it has to be for image status.

Well the reason I feel like a hipster is because of bought new records. New music that was put onto vinyl just because It seemed like fun and the record player is the only thing I have hooked up to speakers...

"Hipster" is more attitude than anything else. It's when someone thinks they're somehow more important about liking old or obscure things, and openly flaunt it to everyone. Simply having a record player, and getting new records for it occasionally isn't really hipster.

Hipsters are people who value a counter culture, what you say can be true in regards to individual hipsters but certainly don't apply to hipsters in general.

That's always been my view on it. If a hipster was actually labelled by tastes in music etc. than I would probably be labelled as a hipster, but I don't do stupid **** like this flaunting my classic or obscure tastes to everyone.
