For anyone in the comments for most countries in the world you can be fired for having visible tattoos on the spot and it is not workplace discrimination to not hire someone based solely on tattoos , unless in very extreme cases where the tattoos can fall under religious purposes

I am a Senior Graphic Designer. Most of the people I work with have tattoos. Our rule is. Your tatoos have to look good. If not means you are probably a crappy designer. Face tattoos and neck tattoos are almost always crappy looking. Also love you mom and RIP tattoos are also a sign that you are trash and stupid.
User avatar #33 to #28 - breadstickez (01/03/2013) [-]
That's strange. My belief really is that tattoos that have significant meaning (for a family member/heritage/child/life event) are symbolic and show intelligence and choice, where as stupid things like a skull or a cartoon character show lack of thought and trash. I don't love tattoos, so that may influence it, but its interesting to see others opinions.
User avatar #35 to #33 - lolfire (01/03/2013) [-]
My opinion on them is, if the person has a story behind the tattoo, like a proper sentimental meaning behind it, then regardless where it is or what it is, it's a good tattoo.

Things like tribal designs and flaming skulls are **** tho...

Yeah. I got a stupid Tribal Tattoo when I was young and stupid in Miami. I am thinking of getting it removed.

Due to equality it is illegal to discriminate against those with tattoos.

Refusing to hire someone because they have tattoos is as good as refusing to hire someone because they're black, and everyone knows how much of a ********* that would cause.

Stop playing with stupid it will make you dumb
#20 to #10 - anonymous (01/03/2013) [-]
you are an idiot. people have no choice in race, sex, sexual orientation, or religion. Tattoo's are 100% choice, and in no way is it illegal to refuse to hire someone because of it. learn your countries laws, and stop trying to act so smart
#46 to #20 - autoxx (01/03/2013) [-]
My great grandfather was tattooed in Auschwitz, it was against his will.
He was blindfolded and did nazi it coming.
User avatar #24 to #20 - odonnell (01/03/2013) [-]
I do know my countries laws, and in my country it is illegal to discriminate.
People do have a choice in religion (Well some people, I for one wasn't forced to be baptised, but even at that, you can always convert)

I wasn't trying to act smart, I was just pointing out that its not acceptable to discriminate against someone with tattoos. Tattoos are choice, but they don't effect your abilities any more than skin stone, sex, religion etc.
User avatar #27 to #24 - breadstickez (01/03/2013) [-]
You're wrong. It is perfectly legal to discriminate based on tattoos. Many companies have policies banning visible tattoos on the face, neck, hands, legs, and forearms. You are correct that they cannot discriminate based on gender/race/sex/religion but tattoos are a choice and if you choose to get them one can choose to not hire you.
User avatar #19 to #10 - hauptishere (01/03/2013) [-]
Race, gender, and sexual orientation do not effect how you perform a job. Being a moron does. Exhibit A is above.
User avatar #22 to #19 - odonnell (01/03/2013) [-]
Yes, Being a moron does. Having a tattoo doesn't make you a moron though.
Im sure there are plenty of Scientists that have tattoos.

Obviously this tattoo is retarded and the guy probably is a moron, but technically, having tattoos doesn't make you stupid.
User avatar #25 to #22 - hauptishere (01/03/2013) [-]
This is a moron with a tattoo, but not everyone with a tattoo is a moron. See the difference?
User avatar #32 to #25 - odonnell (01/03/2013) [-]
Thats what I just said.
The way you said Race, Gender, Sexual preference etc was making it sound as if you were saying that tattoos effect you're performance and everyone with them are morons.
#11 to #10 - anonymous (01/03/2013) [-]
That's not true, but nice try.
User avatar #13 to #11 - odonnell (01/03/2013) [-]
Explain, please.

Last time I checked, due to equality laws, employers cannot discriminate against people for age, sex, race, etc.
#15 to #13 - anonymous (01/03/2013) [-]
It is illegal to discriminate - but who's going to find out? It's easy to lie.
"Candidate A had more experience" etc.

User avatar #17 to #14 - odonnell (01/03/2013) [-]
It doesn't matter if you chose it or not. They cannot discriminate against you.
Someone being refused because of body art, is almost the exact same as refusing someone because of skin tone. It's still down to skin factors.

You're just trying to twist my words and be a dick. So **** you.

Anon has a better argument/ fair point, Yes its unlikely anyone would find out, but its still illegal, although some employers will lie about it, which is why you should cover you're tattoos in the interview then once you've got the job you can freely wear short sleeve shirts etc, its harder for an employer to cover up why they would fire you.
User avatar #21 to #17 - fedegon ONLINE (01/03/2013) [-]
I understand anon's argument, yet a tattoo as exposed as that is hard to cover, unlike ones on the torso or on the limbs.
Also, how am I twisting your words? People are born black, people are born female, people are young or old and can't accelerate that process, those are all things that are unchangeable unless you have a really expensive surgery, while tattoos aren't stuff we're born with or that becomes a part of us; not to mention that there are stupid tattoos like that, or symbolic stuff, a quote for the bible for instance, or some symbolic image.
User avatar #31 to #21 - PubLandlord (01/03/2013) [-]
You are right Tattoos and piercings come under dress code, if you are unable or refuse to adhear to the dress code then they do not have to be hired , or can be asked to wear something to cover them up , the OP anon is incorrect, if he is in UK there are no laws protecting against tattoos , if anything there are company rights which give companies the right to fire someone if they are not keeping an acceptable appearance
User avatar #29 to #21 - odonnell (01/03/2013) [-]
Oh Sorry, Maybe I'm twisting my own words then xD I didn't mean for it to come out as Being black and having tattoos as the exact same. I meant the discrimination is the same, choosing someone that doesn't have a tattoo is similar to choosing someone that has a more appealing skin tone to you.

Yes that tattoo is stupid, but Symbolic or Religious tattoos puts it into the situation where they are then discriminating because of your religion.

PS. Just to clear up for everyone, Im not saying being black is as stupid as this tattoo, that seems to be what all of you's are bitching about. I agree that this tattoo is retarded, I was meaning for acceptable tattoos with something personally symbolic, religious, etc.
User avatar #34 to #29 - fedegon ONLINE (01/03/2013) [-]
Good, I think that cleared it up. You just had to word it a little bit better.
But true, tattoos could also be mistakes from when a person as younger and stupider, or simply drunk.

no, he's wrong. "it is" is the right term to use.

Otherwise it would be posessive.

#45 to #30 - KungFuZerO (01/03/2013) [-]
I dont blame you because it's confusing (haha) but you have it backwards
It's is a contraction for "it is" or "it has"
"its" shows possession. Think of it this way, if something doesn't have a gender, it doesn't deserve an apostrophe.
A simple google search will prove the above.
User avatar #51 to #45 - HarvietheDinkle (01/04/2013) [-]

#53 to #52 - HarvietheDinkle (01/04/2013) [-]
Try this on:

"When it is time to party we will always party hard" (it's)

vs

"When its time to party we will always party hard"

The first one is fine, with the expanded form of "it's" (apostrophe). The second one is not because it uses "its" (no apostrophe, denoting possession. Who can own a "time to party?" A "time to party" is a state of being, not an object! So, while the writing on the neck is kinda retarded (because of its size and lack of necessity) it is grammatically correct.

Besides, in comment #30 I agreed with you concerning the use of "it is"

So, I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and saying that you're trolling, rather than, ironically (and hypocritically) ******* retarted and getting this mad over a perceived grammar error.

So good job again at the trolling. I hope you realized, though, that I aint even mad anymore. 3/10 got me to reply.

I've only replied to your comments with politeness, and you've only replied with insults for your last 2 comments. Who exactly is the one who "knows they're wrong" when they're this upset? Please be civilized; I can't take you as a serious person who has actual points otherwise. Especially if you're getting so mad over something as unimportant as this.

The only alternative is that this is how you treat people in a normal conversation, in which case you seem to be a sociopath (and the internet's probably the best place for you).

But again, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you're just emotional.

Let's go over this again. Which do you think is right?

1) When it is time to party we will always party hard. ("it is")
2) when its time to party we will always party hard. (possessive)

You still haven't disproven my points, such as what a "time to party" is, and why "it is" is wrong. Yet you accuse me of being wrong. This hypocracy and incorrectness forces me to repeat this.

Because simply saying "you're wrong" without attempting to disprove someone's points (as I have done to yours) is no proof at all.

Don't be afraid to admit you're wrong; it's not like anyone sees these posts anymore. And please actually address my points; I've gotten into countless arguments like these where this didn't happen and the other person ended up making a fool of him/herself.

I know the usages of the words. I know that its is posessive and "it's" means "it is." I know the difference.

In case you didn't notice, I'd agreed with that point a while ago. Like, in my beginning statement. Here I was thinking you were trying to get me on whether or not it should be used in this context, yet you are, in fact, still stuck at getting me on the definition!

In addition you still don't address my point: why would you use a possessive when describing a state of being (the state of being being that there is a party?

You're only digging yourself a deeper grave, kid. And I'm enjoying myself while you are.
