Like how we will have spent an estimated 4 trillion to beat jihadists that live in mud huts and can't beat them. Yeah its highly entertaining comedy.

No matter how powerful a Nation is it can't defeat a philosophy with brute force. Only with persistence and time.

No, that's an accurized Garand, an M1A is a semi-automatic M14, and would therefore have a visible magazine.

We'd be the most annoying country in the world to invade.

Also, we have the largest and one of the most powerful militaries in the world.
User avatar #27 to #20 - boeka (12/31/2012) [-]
Russia has the most material (as in: the largest army). according to Wikipedia Russia have over 20mil. men in reserve versus the American 1.5million, and there's also the Chinese army . Sure, they lack the precision of a drone-guided missile, but they can shoot more rounds than the Americans can.
Most powerful? Possibly, but we simply can't tell since the Chinese rarely attack anyone, and Russia only wakes up in spring time when it's time to remind the peasants not to leave the Mother Russia. You must remember that the Georgian war was over in 5 days.

If it comes to invading any of those countries? It can't be done. Russia is cold, harsh land made to destroy empires, the America has too many people willing to fight back, and the Chinese have.. well.. even more people who can be conscripted.
Not to mention the nukes. No one likes nukes.

Sorry for the long comment. I tried to keep it somewhat neutral.

Russia and China have nothing close to a fully operational Blue Water Navy or any force projection to speak of. Only way they would win is if we invade their home turf.

They might have the largest army, but remember: their tech is Russian.
#33 to #29 - electrictroll ONLINE (12/31/2012) [-]
Russian tech is brilliant, for en example during the cold war when the Americans got their hands on some Russian Jets they first laughed at all the outdated components used like Radio tubes rather than Transistors, until they realized that in the event of a nuke only Russian planes would be operational as only the electronics in their planes would be sturdy enough to withstand the emp sent out by the nuke.
(sorry about the *********** of a paragraph)
#71 to #33 - johnshepherd (01/01/2013) [-]
I know that Russian tech is quite good, but isn't there some kind of stereotype about Russian technology being faulty?
#72 to #71 - electrictroll ONLINE (01/01/2013) [-]
I believe the stereotype is that it is simple yet works in every situation.

We Honestly would, The state of Virginia Has more people registered and trained to use fire arms, than most countries have of an army, I mean My neighbor has 3 .50 caliber rifles, and two full auto Ak-47's

I personally have a .45 magnum a room over from me

(I'm against the laws that ban Guns if anyone wants to say anything about that)
User avatar #28 to #14 - Tsquared (12/31/2012) [-]
they shouldn't be banned they should be regulated, name one reasonable situation where having an automatic, military grade, assault rifle would be necessary
User avatar #68 to #28 - Durn (01/01/2013) [-]
Hey, let me try out your logic.

Name one reasonable situation where you would need a 140MPH vehicle in a suburban area.

Name one reasonable situation where you need an 11 inch knife in your kitchen.

Name one reasonable situation where you need speakers that go over 60DB.

User avatar #69 to #68 - Tsquared (01/01/2013) [-]
1: in a suburban area, there is none, I'm not 100% sure but I'd think that those wouldn't be street leagle, besides they aren't designed specifically for killing
2: cutting a large piece of meat, I'm not good in the kitchen I assume there is a situation where its preferable
3: last I checked, Speakers aren't particularly lethal, besides that, increased range to my yourself heard at a large event like a concert or massive party

To avenge your uncle's death in an insanely awesome ninja-gun battle. I hope I'm not the only one who would want this.
User avatar #43 to #41 - Tsquared (01/01/2013) [-]
wouldn't a ninja sword battle be even cooler?
User avatar #44 to #43 - multimedia (01/01/2013) [-]
Well, yes, but the swords don't come out until somebody runs out of bullets. That way you could have explosions and bullets everywhere and some dude running around with a sword saying, "Don't bring a knife to a gunfight? THIS ISN'T A KNIFE!!!"
User avatar #39 to #28 - imthepunkkid (01/01/2013) [-]
Because, No one can be trusted on this planet, Everyone has there own personal vendettas, But if you want to see the Most paranoid people in the world, Look at a politician, What happens if the country is over taken, and the government falls, the Military has no command, That causes chaos, then what happens, It is every man for him self, we have to defend it on our own.

The best way to keep a country running, Is to have a fail safe for every situation, And if our final fail safe is a few million civilians with guns, Than you better be damn Sure its a hell of a good fail safe
User avatar #40 to #39 - Tsquared (01/01/2013) [-]
you're looking at the worst possible scenario, what's your solution, give everyone firearms? the rate of accidental shoots would skyrocket and the same would go for impulse killing
User avatar #42 to #40 - imthepunkkid (01/01/2013) [-]
No, give the ones that have passed training and a mental evaluation firearms
User avatar #45 to #42 - Tsquared (01/01/2013) [-]
you do realise that that's regulation right?

and either way, military-grade weapons are still way too powerful and dangerous for public ownership, they aren't designed with defense in mind, they're meant to kill as many people in as little time as possible
#49 to #45 - elgringogordo **User deleted account** has deleted their comment [-]
User avatar #47 to #45 - imthepunkkid (01/01/2013) [-]
No they are designed to push the limits of weaponry, No man designs a gun with the thought in mind of HOLY **** THIS THING WILL KILL **** SO FAST

Those are the thoughts of a man who has no respect for gun ownership, Design, or Firearms in general
User avatar #52 to #47 - Tsquared (01/01/2013) [-]
that may not explicitly be their though but that's the only possible result,
it has more bullets per magazine: thus can fire longer before reloading: thus more time to do damage/kill
it has fully automatic capability: thus it can fire said bullets faster: thus do damage/kill faster

by the same logic one doesn't make a bomb more powerful to cause more destruction, but to improve explosive technology. same end with a better sounding name

2nd amendment talks about state militias not private ownership
as for the invasion, that's the reason we have a military, one which is currently one of the most powerful in the world
User avatar #16 to #14 - heartlessrobot ONLINE (12/31/2012) [-]
If they attempted to ban guns they'd have a full on revolution on their hands. Not to mention many people serving in our military would be against the ban, if not all of them. I fully believe it would tear apart the country or weaken it.
