What was that? Sorry, I couldn't hear you over the sound of my free healthcare.

or your 15% sales tax

Just because something is free dose not mean its good healthcare. I live next to the biggest Navajo indian resvervations and they get free health care but they dont use it because they will die if they do because social medicine sucks ass.

It's not free. I didn't realize the doctors worked for free.

What's that? Can't hear you from the ******* moon!

(Besides, your healthcare isn't free, it's paid with taxes)

Your money smells like maple syrup, your argument is invalid.

You have to pay some of the highest taxes in the world for it.

Oh yeah, that sounds free.
User avatar #183 to #175 - thisotherdude (12/30/2012) [-]
Taxes spread out over time and several million people I can afford. Ridiculous sums of money all at once at an unexpected time, not so much
User avatar #260 to #183 - sovereignsunkown (12/30/2012) [-]
yeah, pretty much this.
because higher taxes are so bad when they're staggered to fit your income, so you can live comfortably regardless of the tax rates.
"sure, i pay 43% taxes, but i live more than comfortably with 57% of my income." is what you'll hear from most Canadians in the highest tax brackets.
User avatar #200 to #183 - bluejupiter (12/30/2012) [-]
Maybe if your taxes weren't so high you'd be able to afford those sums?

Fun fact: If you have insurance you don't pay as much for medical fees!
User avatar #262 to #200 - sovereignsunkown (12/30/2012) [-]
this is ridiculous. our taxes go to far more than healthcare, and don't restrict our standard of living whatsoever.
actually, our standard of living is somewhat improved, due to our excellent social programs, universal healthcare, extremely successful education system, and generally well constructed system of taxation.
it also has to do with the attitude of most Canadians. a lot of people here care about living comfortably, so it doesn't bother us that we pay 36% income tax if we live perfectly fine with that 64% we keep.

As a fellow Canadian, I say this:
Yeah.
Sorry if that offends some people!

And I definitely appreciate your saying I'm a well-constructed system. Hell yeah, taking money and being sexy about it!

Oh shush. When dentistry, chiropractic, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, and a ton of other things aren't covered, out health care isn't free. And the things that are covered aren't exactly top quality (from the experience of myself and those around me, at least).
User avatar #148 to #143 - thisotherdude (12/30/2012) [-]
At least when I get two fingers chopped off I won't have to choose which one to reattach because I won't be able to afford getting them both put back on... You know, if the conditions are appropriate for reattaching of course.
User avatar #292 to #148 - lamarisagoodname (12/31/2012) [-]
"No! I won't spend a little more time and resources to attach the other one! Pay me first."

Am I interpreting this wrong or is there actually a problem there?
User avatar #336 to #292 - thisotherdude (12/31/2012) [-]
Something like that actually did happen in America, a guy got two fingers cut off and he had to pay for each to be reattached, since he had fairly standard wage though he could only afford to have one reattached, the other one was pretty much just thrown out.
User avatar #155 to #148 - chucknorrisTHEGAME (12/30/2012) [-]
That's true, however you'll probably be in a waiting room for eight hours until you can see a doctor who will tell you to come back in two weeks at which point it's too late to fix.
User avatar #265 to #155 - sovereignsunkown (12/30/2012) [-]
this is only in eastern canada, under the worst of circumstances. in ontario, quebec and other western provinces, our average wait time is 2 hours less than in the average american hospital.
the whole "there's a long wait" is just a confusing piece of propaganda that gets perpetuated by a few isolated incidents or by comparing the "highest end" hospitals in america to the "average" ones here.
