Dude, seriously? You post it when I'm on my laptop, AFTER it gets wiped. I had over 300 Horus pictures alone. That would have been some great **** .

#78 to #77 - jakeattack (12/26/2012) [-]
no i mean compared to today. althought he egyptian empire is huge, we have a bigger population today. but on the other hand the percentage of people worshiping would be higher. hm

Horus wasn't born of a virgin, though. He's born of Isis and Osiris. The latter got resurrected by the former, but with a gold penis because the old one couldn't be retrieved.

There's over 40 ancient religions, thousands and hundreds of years older than the birth of Jesus and Christianity, who had a figure like this:

-Born on Dec. 25th
-Dead (for the same 3 days sometimes) and resurrected
-Performed miracles
-Born of a virgin
-Signaled by a star in the east
-Had 12 disciples
-Shared many similar nicknames, etc.

They are stories based on astronomy and astrology symbolism. Every society with knowledge of astronomy came up with a similar story to justify their religious beliefs. They were not copies of the original since they were all based around science and observation.

You can watch youtu.be/oZgT1SRcrKE for an explanation of these similarities, and of all the symbolism.

I can confirm one of them:
Isis, the mother of Horus, was a virgin.
"When Amun was assimilated with Ra, his wife Mut merged with Ra's wife, Isis-Hathor, as the composite deity Mut-Isis-Nekhbet. Mut was a mother goddess, like Isis, but was generally considered to be infertile and virginal. Thus it was suggested that Isis became pregnant by magical means and was still a virgin." - http://ancientegyptonline.co.uk/isisgod.html

Ha. courtesy of a google search.

But let’s not fixate on Horus. The real difference between Egyptian mythology and the story of Jesus is that the former is clearly a fable full of beings with super powers, whereas the latter is told in realistic terms with the occasional miracle thrown in. The simplest explanation for this is that the New Testament is largely about a real person.

That's like me saying your asshole stinks but mine just lacks fragrance.

User avatar #115 - Furubatsu (12/26/2012) [-]
In all fairness, the bible never states Jesus' birthday and in fact there are a few denominations of christianity today that dont celebrate christmas such as Jehovah's Witness' who beleive he was born on October 1st.

Christmas came from
1. A roman holidy whose god (sorry, I cant remember his name) admittedly has a lot in common with the story of Jesus (Born to a virgin in a stable, had a halo of light around his head and could purify your soul, his high church was in the vatican and was lead by a Papel (latin for pope). But you'll find many similarities among religion world wide.
2. A pagan festival where you made it this far into witner without dieing, let's celebrate!

As for Horus, there is a lot of mistakes with that, as half the comments have pointed out.
