Recently, while I was coming home from walking my dog with my wife
and daughter, I stopped by my neighbor' s house, where he was doing
some yard work, and started a friendly conversation. Unfortunately my
neighbor, who is very conservative, decided to bring his party' s politics
into the life of my daughter. He asked her what she wanted
to be when she grew up, and when she answered that she wanted to be
president some day, my wife and I were so proud of her young ambitions,
bless her heart. He just asked her,
If you were President what would be the first thing you would do?"
She replied... "I' d give food and houses to all the homeless people."
I was so happy that my daughter wanted to grow up and make a positive
difference in someone' s life.
Wow... what a worthy goal!" He said. "But you don' t have to wait until
you' re President to do that!" he told her.
What do you mean?" She replied.
He told her, "You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull
weeds, and trim my hedge, and I' ll pay you . Then you can go over to
the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out and give him the
to use toward food and a new house." I couldn' t believe that he had taken
an girl and decided to use her as a lesson to try and teach
me something from his "infinite" bank of wisdom.
Slightly puzzled, she asked him,
Why doesn' t the homeless guy come over and do the work and you can
just pay him the ?"
Welcome to the Republican Party."
Two days later, I saw him outside at work, and asked him why he was
doing the work and hadn' t hired the homeless man. He replied with some
grumbling that the man probably wasn' t trained enough and could go to
someone else for money. I smiled and said,
Welcome to the Democratic Party."
He hasn' t talked to me since.
