That was the playstation 1 controller, it had no toggles on them, then a little down the line they made the playstation 1 controllers with the sticks, and continued to make them forever more.

The memories of sitting in my bed where normal controllers couldn't reach playing Metroid Prime. Thing was badass.

Technically, this was supposed to be the new PS3 controller until critics started bashing on it. At last minute, Sony went back to the Dualshock controllers, which is now Sixaxis.

"Patrick Seybold, director of corporate communications and social media at Sony Computer Entertainment America, gave us an explanation for the change: "The original PlayStation 3 controller that was unveiled at E3 2005 was a design mock up that we wanted to get ready for the product's first unveiling. It was obviously met with a very vocal reaction, some in favor of and some not in favor of the design. After E3, while we were going through a variety of focus group tests across the globe, it was clear that the consumers and PlayStation fans wanted to experience their PlayStation 3 games with the familiarity and award winning feel of the Dual Shock design, and we made that change." n64 has the worst controller ever seriousl you need 3 hands so yah your wrong
#139 to #93 - jinkazama (12/08/2012) [-]
Look at the grip stick placement. It's not placed comfortably enough in conjunction to where the buttons are. N64 had some great games, but it's controller design is just unnecessary.

High tear: Modern Xbox, Bottom right, Gamecube
Mid Tear: PS controllers, Bottom middle
Low Tier, Wii Mote, N64 controller
User avatar #82 to #44 - aerius (12/08/2012) [-]
PS controllers just aren't comfortable to a lot of people because they don't like the way you have to hang them by the shoulder buttons. The Gamecube controller is awesome, and the wiimote/nunchuck is a great controller purely because of how comfortable having a split controller is, you can play games in any position imaginable. The PS1 & N64 ones are pretty terribad by today's standards.
#166 to #44 - anon (12/08/2012) [-]
How would N64 be middle tier? It's designed for god damn aliens and is probably the worst controller out of the bunch. Quit nostalgia bonering over the place.

He for me the playstation controller never really grew on me. It just felt akward for me since I had played nintendo all my life. The 64 controller was okay but when i was a kid the gamecube one was the best. then i got an xbox and fell in love with the controllers (still my favorite.) Played my uncles wii U and really like the tablet, didnt really hate nor like the wii u pro controller. Probably caused im so used to the xbox controller that i have a biased judgment of it.

TLDR: gamecube rocked xbox rocked wii u tablet is ************ sick.
PS: all of this is my opinion, like i said was a nintendo fan since the original nintendo and then fell in love with xbox. no real time with playstation besides psp

I like that the ps3 controllers don't change, so that I don't have to get used to another grip every time I get the new console.

Read the content carefully.
"Innovation requires taking risks."
That means he's coming to the conclusion that they even took a risk, and that the risk turned out badly.
User avatar #198 to #197 - hemming (12/09/2012) [-]
They took a risk, which was required for making Innovation, and they sure as hell did take a risk and they sure as hell did innovate their goddamn controller, no where was it implied that it was bad.

I like Playstation controllers. They could be a little more ergonomic, but they are the best layed out button wise IMO.
User avatar #4 to #1 - viscerys (12/07/2012) [-]
They're a bit to frail in my opinion. I failed a boss battle in Demon's Souls and accidentally snapped my PS3 controller in half. It wasn't fun.
User avatar #5 to #4 - traelos (12/07/2012) [-]
I think...that's....more a problem with you....PLEASEDON'THURTME

But really...I...well...I don't think that's something they account for a great deal when designing them.

It probably isn't.
#33 to #1 - niggerwhorebitch (12/08/2012) [-]
i like them aswell because of the joysticks, they are a bit higher and softer than the xbox controllers. so you have better aim and accuraccy.
User avatar #38 to #33 - Scorch (12/08/2012) [-]
i'd do anything for an xbox controller with playstation joysticks (except you know, anything that tak the slightest bit of effort lik eactually making it...)

Cant we all just get along?
They all have their strong suits and weak points.
Why not enjoy them all.

I never understood the N64-controller. Maybe it's because I don't have 3 hands.

The only controller I didn't like out of all of these is the original X-box controller. Felt too big and clunky.
Other than that all the rest did feel really different from each other, but if you actually take a minute to play with them they feel really natural. Even the 64 (Loved the 64)

True. plus the ps1 had no analogue sticks originally. And the ps3 had re-worked triggers.
