Science and philosophy are a kin.
Historically, one had to be a scientist and a philosopher in order for any arguments to be considered valid (View Descartes and his meditations utilized to justify his scientific arguments)
The whole premise is that this is what science can show, but how do we know its real?
The thought displines have distanced in recent times due to the increase in specialization in our society, but they remain two diffrent methods for achieving the same goal: the advancement of the same goal.

Furthermore metaphysics is a subdivision of philosophy, and theology is largely a mix, of history, sociology, metaphysics and epistemology depending on the specialization of the individual researcher.
