Knifing a metal fence and seeing it explode into pieces?
Or blowing holes into a couple of walls (which have fixed locations, mind you), and when X number of holes are blown into a building's walls, it shows a pre-rendered animation of it collapsing. There's no ACTUAL PHYSICS involved in it at all. Just a couple of separate hitboxes on buildings. Same with small walls or obstacles. They take so and so much damage, and then blow up.

Sorry to say this, but it's just tricks.

you only get 3 endings. all endings completely disregard any and all choices you have made. heres what you do. play the game till you go to take back earth, at that point turn off the game, remove teh diskand destroy it/delete any and all game file and finally make up your own ending because even if it involves Shepard saving the world by sucking all the reapers into his asshole it will be a better ending than the three flavors

all of the games that it imitates, (civilisation etc,) are far better than the game itself, but overall the game seemed above par.
User avatar #179 to #155 - ComradeBritish (12/06/2012) [-]
It got toned down too much in my opinion, I enjoyed it yes, but it wasn't the experience I would've liked.
User avatar #194 to #155 - alyosha (12/06/2012) [-]
Only things I didn't like was how little emphasis it put on the earlier stages, how it seemed like you went from single cell to conquering the world in an hour. Also, the constant little "save your planet from destruction!!!" missions you couldn't outsource to other ships in your empire discouraged galactic expansion, and that irked me a bit.

I still played the game like a religion for several months, though.
User avatar #196 to #194 - vorkuta (12/06/2012) [-]
There was so much to do, so many things to create, etc. that the game never got stale for me. As well as once you got to the space stage, **** got mad crazy. The whole idea of the game is evolution in a nutshell, and to be able to have freedom to either rape others, make peace, trade, or anything you want. The saving your planet missions were just to keep you hovered around your home planet, and to also keep you busy. I played that ****** for two minutes at my friend's house and went outside, immediately said, "I'm going back to playing spore." It should be a damn religion by now.
User avatar #199 to #196 - alyosha (12/06/2012) [-]
I loved the game and what it was. When I read the articles about it, I was both happy it was being released and sad it was being released so early. I knew they were going to have to dumb it down because of how glorious an idea it was. I definitely hope they make a better one in the future.

What I wanted to do was expand my empire and take **** over, but once I got 20-30 planets I couldn't do anything else at all. There was ALWAYS some little save your planet mission to do, and that killed the game for me. Yes, there was a lot to do in the game, but I never got a chance to really put it through its paces because within 30 seconds of finishing one ecosystem mission I had to go do another.

If they make a sequel, they need to let you build other spaceships and send them to do stuff. Rather than just make all spaceships roughly equally powered, they should have done the same basic idea of earlier stages. Build ships for combat, ships for trade, and ships for ecosystem stabilization. Send them around to do your bidding like an actual empire, rather than one ship that has to care for and change the diapers of an entire civilization.

But, again, I still loved the game for a long while, and it's funny you should mention it because I've been wanting to play it again. Maybe I'll go do that now.
User avatar #211 to #199 - vorkuta (12/06/2012) [-]
Spore has received amazing reviews, as well as the gameplay has proven to it. They really should release some sort of sequel-ish game to provide more in-depth game, and more powerful of mostly everything in a pattern. I used to start new planets right after I finished the old ones or reached a certain galactic rank. I'm pretty sure that's how that kept it going. Besides that, the only BIG thing anyone can spend months on to do, in that game, is kill the Grox.

Getting to shore was easy, evolving was easier, killing other tribes was like strangling an infant, and being a military was like snapping a chihuahua's neck. Space was space.

That game always will be a favorite of many.
User avatar #220 to #211 - alyosha (12/06/2012) [-]
The idea of you being on the same planet the whole time was interesting and amusing, and I liked how I could fly over it in my spaceship and see little craters where my species had made nests millions of years ago. And I liked how you would occasionally be visited by aliens, hinting that a larger galactic community exists beyond where you are. Still, it made the game too easy and short.

What would be cool is if each level was an entirely separate map, not just "cell" and "planet." So as a creature you're on a huge enormous continent, and then in civilization the planet's not just a shrunken down planet but a pretty big deal. Go to space and the planet shrinks, so it's manageable and comparable compared to the others. It'd make it somewhat less continuous, how the map would be changing rather than constant, but even in civilization phase I didn't feel that the planet was truly "big." It still seemed incredibly tiny.

Good first entry into an entirely new genre of sim, but...sequel needed. Badly. There is a lot of room to improve and update that game to make it TRULY worthy of its ambition.
User avatar #239 to #220 - vorkuta (12/06/2012) [-]
The way the dev's tried to design it was that you'd go to each and every star, search every little crevice of every planet. That game was too easy to even begin to reach star #200, by then you'd have everything you need, the staff, maximum level, all that good **** .

The cell and planet of yourself weren't huge, but they weren't microscopic in the game's values. I think they, yes, should have enlarged the world in certain stages, but they should have done certain other things if at all possible. Maybe an underwater community, tribe, that could have made things become a lot more interesting.

The type of sim that spore created is magnificent, EA created darkspore I believe, which isn't as fun.
User avatar #250 to #239 - alyosha (12/06/2012) [-]
Underwater would have been awesome. Damn, the game idea has so much potential...I want to see another.

Although for now I'm content just waiting out the new SimCity to see if it's any good. On one hand it's gonna be hella tough to even come close to the glory of SC4, but on the other hand even Pong is a better city simulator than that Societies or whatever they made was called. That made me want to slit my wrists.
