It's not even about Beiber... If you're going to meet someone as important as the prime minister you shouldn't dress like a ******** .

To be complete honest, I don't even think it's about the clothes as much as it is society's view on "respect". You're totally right. "It's tradition" is about as good of an answer as you're ever going to get but if it's tradition and everyone agrees it just becomes sort of a rule.
#38 to #37 - wuterkins (12/01/2012) [-]
It's to show respect. Like going to a funeral in your regular clothes is showing basically you didn't care about them, thus' didn't bother to look nice. So if Justin was got the honor of meeting the prime minister, then he should have shown that he was actually honored to meet him.

Yeah it does, because it showed that they took a little bit more time to look nice for the event. You can compare it to going on a date, wearing your best or formal clothing shows you cared about the date. To wearing your everyday clothes showing that this is probably just like every other day to you. And this doesn't mean wearing nice clothes already mean you care, but it's one of those big things that stand out.

Sure it shows a part of who you are, it shows that you wouldn't put in more thought into your appearance. It shows that you couldn't put in those 10 more seconds to look nice. So it probably says to the other person, hey I didn't want to wear something new today because I had other things to do with 10 seconds ( according to you ) to look nice. Good luck trying to get a job that even the slightest care about the reputation of their company.

You're probably that one guy who wears the same pair of pants two weeks in a row without changing them.

Dressing up properly isn't only about respect, but it helps create atmosphere, like a wedding, or a ball, or a funeral.
Btw, makeup and proper clothing aren't alike; makeup is something optional--nobody expects you to wear pounds of makeup at a wedding or a funeral.

I never said it didn't effect how much you cared about the person, and you're assuming I thinking of it that way too, so stop. I'm saying it's a representation of the thought you put in to the event. You could always get wedded in your casual clothes but it really does show that you didn't give a **** about it because you didn't bother to look FORMAL. It's like you never see a guy dress in a tuxedo, because school is a casual event. So, vise-versa you wouldn't see a guy dress in sweat pants and a t shirt to something formal like a funeral or wedding. It just doesn't happen, and you'd get a lot of **** for doing so. Also putting on a tuxedo on at school, you'll probably get clowned too because there's nothing FORMAL going on. Yes, and also how dengekisushi stated it does create atmosphere. Because looking at a room of people that are in tuxedos and dresses you'd think something important is going on. Vise versa to people dressing in sweat pants, and hoodies, you'd think they're some kids maybe doing some shady stuff.

We've already given you a reason: R-E-S-P-E-C-T and A-T-M-O-S-P-H-E-R-E.
It lets people know you have some dignity and R-E-S-P-E-C-T for other people.

Don't put makeup into this conversation, because makeup isn't a formal thing. It's like putting on gel, some guys do some guys don't. But if a girl came on a date with me, and she has her hair in a ponytail, she's wearing sweats and a t-shirt, I'll get a straight indication that she probably doesn't wanna be here. I may be wrong, but for the most part I'll be right. It really is base on assumption at that point, you may think differently, but I bet you that you haven't been on a date with a girl that liked you that didn't put in even a little thought to how she'll look. ( At least if you're out of high school )

Okay **** , you're so hard to put sense into. Sure respect is displayed through how you treat someone, but I would, and I bet you would too if someone dressed better than how they would normally dress to a meeting with you. It shows that you want to present yourself to them better than you usually do and that creates even more respect. To a person that just wore whatever, it sets the mood as you found this meeting as whatever. You're lying if you wouldn't appreciate everyone dressing up nicely at your funeral, wedding, and any other formal events.

I am materialistic because it's true. If someone comes to you wedding all dressed up and everything then they put in some times to dress up nice. But if a person comes in his regular clothing it's like they only showed up to show up and it gives that vibe. People notice it. And the way you dress does indicate how respectful you are to a degree. If you are more respectful, then you would dress the way you were expected to a funeral or wedding. Or you can dress the other way and almost say **** that I'm too good for this or I don't care about the dress code. And I'm done with you. You can live how you want, but just know that this is how a lot of people probably think of you if you do what you are saying. ( Judging by the thumbs to the first comments )
