Don't use knifes. A katana is made for quick draw and do pierce through flesh. and it's a medium ranged melee weapon. Perfect!

The main problem is the fact that those mall katanas you see are made of **** steel and break very easily. So unless you live near a forge they are actually pretty useless.

too high maintenance for a good zombie weapon

Personally I always liked weapons of the blunt force trauma variety, which I feel there is a serious lack of in the walking dead.
Small clubs or bats would be good for bashing skulls...

i'm alway's the axe over mace and sword guy. it has both the awsomeness of an edged weapon. and combines the weight of a blunt weapon.

on the side note. i love flails. they look awesome. and combining weight with acceleration is just plain cool.

I always preferred big kitchen knives. You can dual wield them quite effectively and I'm not a big guy so small weapons would work best. Plus they're almost everywhere.

If i may give you something to do. read the zombie survival guide. it's alot of fun reading something about a zombie apocalypse survival. one thing mentioned in the book is that knifes are easy to find but aren't practical against zombies. since the only way to kill one. is to destroy its brain. you'll have to aim for the eye socket or the nose ( with a small thin blade ) if you want to destroy the brain. wich will be hard when it's running towards you and schambling. that's why hatcheds and machete's are prefered over knifes. decapitation is easyer than aiming for an eye socket or nose :)

just as a side note. i think it'll never happen. the whole zombie thing. but the book might give some clarity on things you're thinking about when it does happen.

Hah. A kitchen knife? Dual wielding? You can't be serious. I'm going to laugh at how easily you'll die in a life or death situation.

I'm not even joking. People don't dual wield, because it's just not a smart idea. And seriously, a kitchen knife for combat? What are you going to do, dice a zombie into pieces with a chef knife? Cleavers are only good for when there's something to brace the meat and bone against. Kitchen knives aren't made for durability like a combat knife is. You want a good zombie weapon? Here you go. Kukri. Great for chopping, digging, slashing, blunt force, etc. Bit weighted, but not terribly so.

No, you never use knives for cutting, that's impractical. They're a stabbing weapon. You get in close and go one under the chin and one through either the base of the rear of their neck, or the nasal cavity. You only use two because there is a chance it'll miss the crucial parts of their brain. You don't even pull the knives out as that is a waste of time. Kitchen knives are plentiful and lightweight, making it relatively easy to carry a dozen of them. (This is all assuming we're talking slow, meandering zombies where you have the advantage in speed. This would obviously never work on the quick and brutal variety.)

Eventually you run out of knives, and in a situation like an apocalypse, people will take everything, because they'll find some use for it.

Remove them once the threat is gone. Those ******* are everywhere. I can use other weapons, they're not that complicated and I'm pretty adaptable. Or take them. Like you said, people will take everything. Pick any of these as a counterargument.

All I'm saying is most people I meet say "My weapon of choice would be a halberd. Those things are badass!" or other weapons that are impossible to find. Everything breaks eventually and replacement glaives aren't exactly common.

I agree, I'm just saying, a bunch of kitchen knives isn't that realistically useful. Honestly, you couldn't reuse most of them much due to the blade snapping. They're usually made with terrible quality.

Fair point, sir. I'd say you get about 5 uses from each and I have about 10 in my house, so it's a good start since I'm not planning on seeking out Zed. I just wanted to make it clear I'd put some thought into picking such a feeble weapon. May I ask what you'd be using?

And I would use a KA-BAR Explorer, made of surgical stainless steel, a small tomahawk (in my possession) which I have great aim with when throwing, the kukri I posted a picture of, and a small revolver for emergency usage.

Not even 5. We're talking about stabbing with a lot of force through a skull. Kitchen knives aren't meant for stabbing. They will break easily after one or two uses.

I specified early that I'd aim for softer spots, like upward through the bas of the skull and the nasal cavity, but maybe you're right. Again, what would you be using?

Ice picks make very good weapons in the right hands... And have been used in many murders.
The ghillie suit, would only be good if you were smart and could mask your scent...

But we are talking about the zombie apocalypse.
Zombies won't necessarily be your enemy 100% of the time, usually it's just surviving.
An icepick would kill zombies nicely, yes, but other then climbing mountains it won't do you ****.
And the ghillie suit.
Zombies are stupid, all you need to do is stay out of sight, they can't smell anymore.
The suit would make you over heat and would get caught on anything, and you also wouldn't be able to carry a backpack or other tools conveniently.

This is an ice pick, I assume you're thinking of climbing pick axes.

And I think zombies are meant to have a pretty good sense of smell.
And as far as the ghillie suit goes, I wouldn't use one myself, standard camo, 3d patterns (like for hunting) or dark clothing would do me fine.

The ice pick is actually a very efficient weapon, they'll go through bone easily and are easily removed, they are much more durable and stronger than they look. And they have been used as a brain damaging weapon, and most cases fatal.
They're used for breaking ice that's in a bucket, or very large chunks, something a knife is nowhere near as efficient at.
They have been used in many gang and government related assassinations.

It's true that they don't look like much, but something that won't get jammed in bone would be easier and cleaner.
