I'm a Christian. I am in no way offended. if anything, I am relieved to see more posts like this. The bible is not to be taken literally. It was written a bloody long time ago. last time i checked my neighbor didnt have an ox, for example. People need to calm the **** down about what should and should not be taken literally. God loves you. So if you wanna **** someone of the same sex, go right ahead. Jesus was kissed by a man, or did the God have to turn a blind eye to that?

I really, REALLY wish there were more Christians like you. I've only met a whopping total of two, and to say the least they're some of the best people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

I know this is a lot but I don't want you to think incorrectly about the bible and avoid christianity because of that purpose. More than any way I could possibly describe to you, God loves you, he doesn't care about any sin that you commit or have committed, he just wants you to believe in him and have faith; he'll do the rest. Literally all he asks is that you believe in him.

I sin all the time and I'm a christian. It sucks, but I know God forgave me before I ever sinned in the first place and he'll always love me. So does that make me a hypocrite? So if I'm a hypocrite, I say I love God, I still sin and do immoral stuff, but I'm still going to heaven... Why the heck wouldn't you want this? Its that easy. Wake up! Give him a chance.

Just ask yourself what if there really is a Heaven and Hell? Well I'm pretty confident I'm going to heaven. At least I would really like to hope so considering the alternative. And if I'm right then.... :( you could end up in Hell and I don't wish that upon anybody.

So what if there isn't a heaven or hell? Well then nothing happens when we die and thats it.

So seriously, do you think that it is worth the risk?

If you seriously want to chat about this hit me up and I'll try to get back to you ASAP :P

Most of this **** comes down to interpretation. But it does seem that some people pick and choose the rules that suit them. Like I'm pretty sure I know Christians who eat pork but apparently being gay is wrong...? Cool.

Well since you decided to reply and use scripture as your evidence to support your claim, I will give you a response also using scripture as evidence to support my claims.
Hebrews 8:13 explicitly says '"By calling this covenant "new," he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear."' This is literally God saying that a new covenant will replace the old one, therefore the law of the old testament becomes obsolete.

So, where is this from?
User avatar #738 - curtisbentley (11/29/2012) [-]
Everyone knows everything in the Old Testament doesn't matter in the slightest. The New Testament is the only thing that should be focused upon. Jesus never said a thing on homosexuals, he talked more about sins of the spirit than the body.

On a school computer, no gifs I can add. c:

#800 to #738 - hailarty (11/29/2012) [-]
Okay lets focus on the new testament then.

New testament.Matthew 10:34~

“Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn

a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother inlaw
a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.

Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it."

oh yeah, everyone know,s for sure. left alone catholics, mormons and all the other christian groups with a different understanding of tradition and scripture. there is no reason, why you should be right and they wrong in this very childish game
#751 to #738 - anonymous (11/29/2012) [-]
typical cherry-picking.
Nice try, but Jesus himself said to keep the laws of the old testament.
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17)
#844 to #751 - trickytrickster (11/29/2012) [-]
Jesus fulfilled the law, therefore it is no longer applicable to us. This is important because two verses down Jesus says "until all is accomplished" which means his dying and resurrection on the cross. He is actually saying that once he dies on the cross the old testament laws no longer are important, which is why the early Christians in Acts and Romans and all of that do not wash, follow Jewish Old Testament laws. The misinterpretation of Matthew 5 is a pet peeve of mine sorry.
#849 to #844 - anonymous (11/29/2012) [-]
No. Again you are cherry picking the part you want to believe.
Jesus' fulfillment is the reason that we supposedly no longer need to sacrifice lambs to God - he was the lamb of God.
You have conveniently ignored "until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place."
Clearly the law of the old testament is to be upheld until the end of time itself.
#863 to #849 - trickytrickster (11/29/2012) [-]
I already cited that passage. You cite a Bible that says "all things have taken place, and I cite it as all things have been accomplished. We are both referring to Matthew 5:18. Well all things being accomplished, or having taken place, means his death and Resurrection on the cross like I said before. That's why Jesus' last words on the cross are "it is finished".

Proof that spiderman exists, as the bibles proofs that god exists.
#954 to #762 - anonymous (07/06/2013) [-]
This is an irrational argument known (oddly enough) as the Spiderman Fallacy:
"Often used to illustrate the flaw in the assertion by evangelical Christians that archaeologists unearthing biblical cities today "proves" that the Bible was written by a supernatural force.
The Spiderman Fallacy is committed any time the discovery of a mundane element from a myth, legend, or story is taken to mean that ALL other parts of that story, even the supernatural, are also true.
Let me explain why I believe atheists should not use this argument to try and support their skeptical position on the Bible and/or whether Jesus actually existed."

All this proves is how illogical and petty most 'atheists' really are.
