To be honest, that is why I think to help lower the divorce rate they should a.) Raise the age requirement to around 26 and b.) Enforce more strict rules regarding marriage. I.e. you have to know someone for x period of time, shut down every ******* '20 minute wedding' ceremony in Vegas would also be a smart move, heck, even add a year or so of a trial period with government mandated couples counciling. Psychology is one of the most often sought after degrees in college, so it'd open up quite a deal of jobs, it would help lower divorce rates and increase overall happiness which makes dealing with the endless masses much easier, and best off you won't have a set of idiots breeding like crazy once they get married and having a bunch of kids they just can't hope to raise in to reasonable human beings.

morally conflicted Shepard agrees.

Yeah communist places. Marriage should not be a government sanctioned thing, including in taxes. There should be a domestic partnership option on the tax returns that applies after you have lived with someone for 7 years and no marriage option.

This solves the issue of gay marriage, solves the issue of marriage and tax and removes the need for more unnecessary laws.
