Well, I'd say it's probably alive, since it's on the box...

Can we put something more exciting on the box? Perhaps, a bigger cat?

It actually exist in a temporal space where its both dead and alive. But its not both at the same time. Its is a place where it has a chance to be either dead or alive. Where only checking it will set a confirmed state of the cat.

That is an interpretation of the experiment (called the Copenhagen interpretation), not a definitive answer.

I personally prefer the Many-worlds interpretation where every event is a branch point so the superposition exist after observation but in different branches of reality that cannot interact with each other, effectively creating two or more alternative universes with every event.
User avatar #9 to #8 - Lolinator (11/27/2012) [-]
No **** Sherlock. That's pretty much the deal with the Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics.

I prefer my french fries warm. Once they get cold, I won't eat them.

User avatar #40 - joestraightballa (11/27/2012) [-]
the cat must be considered alive and dead at the same time, since both are equally possible.
#41 to #40 - anon (11/27/2012) [-]
