what if

the lions and giraffes thought the same thing but backwards, like they thought the original fence was a way to keep humans corralled but now it's to keep them out of their land

I'd like to see you last 2 days in that wild that you're so upset about leaving.
Also, repost.

Actually... fences, we call it enclosures in History class, as a separation of lands, if, as the comic shows, we're talking about using resources in a kind of early capitalist way, were only "invented" in the second agricultural revolution. That means late 17th century, right before the industrial one.

I understand the point of it, but this a chronological mess.

No, no it does not. Here's why. It's the way of thinking of a 10 year old whose dog just died. We have ZOO-s and other ****** places that keeps animals so we can see foreign exotic animals without traveling half of the world. Not because they are extinct. Elephants, Lions, Giraffes.... Those animals were never in Europe, America or northern Asia. Humans brought them there for their amusement. Furthermore, the species of animals were going extinct throughout the history just fine even without humans. **** happens in nature, nobody really gives a **** .

By the way, anyone else noticed increased amount of hippie reposts on funny junk lately? I'm getting really amused by ******** on them :D

"Furthermore, the species of animals were going extinct throughout the history just fine even without humans. **** happens in nature, nobody really gives a **** "

But, extinctions have been occurring more rapidly and frequently in the last thousand years or so, as the human population has increased exponentially. So there is quite possibly correlation.

Also a Wildlife Preserve is not the same thing as a zoo.

Showing a little concern for the planet doesn't make you a hippie either, just saiyan

Listen, we are a dominant species, if we continued to live like in 8000 B.C, we not not progress at all; technologically, socially, in fact, we would still be using rocks and we would still be living in caves.

I know that in the past we have harshly dominated the world, but now, we are slowly realising the ways we can make the world 'better' (More wildlife reserves, changes in the Industry for a better sustaining ecosystems...)

Saying that we are a dominant species is an understatement. We are to the world as Zebra Mussels are to industry in the great lakes.

We, as a society, should have realized and tried to amend our ways much earlier. Many of us still turn a blind eye to the destruction. We are planting six trees for every one which we cut down, but the trees that we cut were several hundred years old, it will take centuries before we see any benefit from the planting of these new trees.

Don't get me wrong, I don't suggest we just stop foresting, and drilling for oil, but we need to look for alternatives and quickly. We're hitting peek oil in about 3 years, if you think that gas is expensive right now, then just you wait. There's a lot going wrong with the planet right now, and not just environmentally, but earth is extremely flexible. If we can stop, or even just slow down what we're doing the world can start to balance itself out.

You're right, I realise the flaws in my statement now.

Thank you for correcting me, it's always nice to have another opinion, even if it's in a minefield of "NO u R ROnG!!!1!"

29% of the earths surface is land, of that humans occupy less than 1%.
User avatar #153 to #148 - thepalmtoptiger (11/22/2012) [-]
If you ignore the fact that much of the planet is occupied by agriculture, then you would be correct. Most of the land on this planet is being occupied by humans. The few places that aren't occupied are either locations like the Amazon rain forest, which is being threatened every year, or places like the Sahara desert, which very few species can survive in and is very undesirable.
#154 to #153 - splitpeasoup (11/22/2012) [-]
29% of Earth is land mass. Of that 29% humans occupy less than 1% of that area. Of the remaining 28% about 40% is pure wilderness. 14% is true desert and 15% has desert like characteristics. 9% is Antarctica. Most of the remaining 22% are agricultural areas.
