Essentially, it's a religious detective story. The prologue opens with a woman walking into a famous cathedral and going into a confession booth. She talks to the priest for a minute, then says, essentially, "We know your secrets. They will be shown to the public soon enough. This place will blow up in ten minutes. You have that long to get as many people out as soon as possible. If you leave with them, the world will know. If you die with the church, your secrets will remain so."

The church blows, taking the priest with it, though everyone else gets out alive.

The first chapter opens inside of a detective's office, a private investigator. A family member of his mentor's comes into his office, asking him to look for her son, who had been missing for a few days. He had gotten involved in with a new religion, similar to Scientology, but several times more radical. She thinks he's been taken somewhere, because she can't find him, and he isn't answering his cell phone. He promises to find the boy, because she's practically family, though she doesn't know the exact connection to him... she was recommended to him by the detective's mentor before he died some years beforehand.

The bulk of the story is to find the boy, chasing him and his cohorts around the world to stop them from blowing up cathedrals, mosques, temples, and other famous religious institutions. I plan to have the climax take place in Notre Dame itself.

That actually sounds like a pretty good book.

Thanks :) I'm not going to go all Dan Brown on this. I've done some exhaustive research on about twelve famous religious places around the world, and I plan to make use of all of it. Also, the detective will be acting like a real private investigator, not like something you'd see on television. That, too, I've done some reading on, as well as the legal rights and abilities of them in America.

I thought about being a writer...but all my characters die horrible miserable deaths.

Been there. I write fanfiction, and I'm awfully cruel to them sometimes.
