Choose a job you enjoy and you'll never work a day in your life? ******* nailed that in one! I'm a Graphic Designer, spent 6-8 years studying Art, and He's right, I don't have to work... because I'm ******* unemployed.

I do freelance work, mainly website related, but some print/logo etc and I get a decent amount. Haven't gone to college. Done a few online courses. I was hired as a Junior developer a year ago, but I didn't want a full time job any more.
#231 to #12 - Rascal (11/20/2012) [-]
that's what happens when you spend 6-8 studying art
User avatar #116 to #12 - symustafa (11/20/2012) [-]
Are you in America? Because I know a few American friends who's doing Art degrees, they going to go to art colleges and universities in Europe, where people have a different view on art and actually appreciate art.
User avatar #147 to #116 - mrhazzy (11/20/2012) [-]
nope, UK.

Well, then, the only English guys I know are doing music and law and stuff like that. Pity how people look down upon the arts as inferior subjects. We still live in a very industrial world, it seems.
User avatar #159 to #154 - mrhazzy (11/20/2012) [-]
the moajority of people think "Art? So you draw?" then they go through the whole "That's not a proper job" "That's not going to earn you money" etc etc, It's annoying, and it's unfair.

We should encourage art more to future students.

I studied media and TV production for the past 8 years, ended up getting a job as a scheduler for a crappy satellite TV channel, after a year I became monumentally depressed at how mundane the job was, how there were no opportunities to progress, and I realised I should've studied something else for all those years.

From now on, I tell anyone interested in going to Uni that they should only go if they want to be a doctor, scientist or lawyer, something along those lines, everything else is a complete waste of time that can be used for something constructive.

To be honest, even though It's hard to find work and commissions and freelance stuff is very few and far between, I couldn't imagine doing anything else, I love Art, It's what i do.

Or do engineering. I'm becoming an electronic and electrical engineer. There are PLENTY of jobs for engineers, i was looking the other day and people are crying out for skilled engineers. Friends of mine is a chemical engineer who has a solid job in the oil industry.

That too, a friend of mine who graduated recently also found a job in the field. Plus you can find lucrative work being freelance in that field.

The problem is that the things I love are things I'm not especially good at.

My favorite thing in the world is invention.
But I've never really had the brains or the funds.

And my parents were never especially supportive of me, my ambitions or crazy ideas.
They did everything in their power to keep me from succeeding or growing.

Now I'm 18 in the midst of life. I have to figure out how to support myself, finding a way to move forward.
I want to write, I hate writing, but having written is lovely. I have stories and truths I want to tell.
I have plenty of more dreams and goals, and hopefully someday I'll be lucky enough to pursue all of them.

As far as this sort of inspiration goes, it's really never been that easy to follow your dreams.
But hopefully one day it all pays off.

"Do what you love"
...I love sleeping...so... sleep?

"Follow your dreams"
Yup totally talking about sleeping there

"You'll never work a day in your life"
So I should...kill myself and sleep forever?

But in all seriousness at least you kinda know what you want to do.
Meanwhile I've dabbled a bit with everything and narrowed it down to a few things.
Music. Writing. Making Video games.
The only thing is, re-listening to the same god damn thing over and over again makes me want to grab a knife and jam it into my ears. The outcome, however, isn't bad; especially since I normally sit down for hours at a time playing random **** on a keyboard until something decent comes along.
Writing...I started something...Couldn't actually start it. **** .
Making video games...well... I have everything to get started and no ambition to do anything so I procrastinate.
**** me, right?

My life hasn't exactly been... the best. I've done what I've could and its a miracle I'm still alive.
I'll leave it that. I know now I have to do more. But life has never ever been anything short of.. something horrifying for me.

It's not that it isn't easy, it's that it's hard to find the right place to start. Find that, and the road will become easier. Don't and it'll become challenging. But never try, and you'll never have had a chance.

Good luck bro :) I feel in the same boat sometimes, i love writing, but i can't just sit down for more than a half hour and just write because im too busy with schooling and work, it sucks. Maybe one day we can both reach our goals!!
