When I was a kid I used to share whole bars of chocolate with our dog.
I didn't know it was bad for them...
User avatar #7 - MoparMan (11/19/2012) [-]
Gonna call ******** on this. I've routinely fed my dog some chocolate for the past 4 years. She's something like 100 in dog years, and still really healthy.

Only problems she has are with her back legs, but that's common with all black Labs.
She still gobble chocolate cookies, Hershey bars, and even steal your ice cream if you leave it somewhere stupid.

I get so mad when i see people say that they have a dog that eats chocolate and think this empirically proves that it isn't true. It depends on the sensitivity of their stomachs and digestive health overall. More importantly, it depends on how much actual cocoa is present, so the darker the chocolate, the more poisonous it is to them.

Golden Retrievers have famously weak and problematic digestive systems, and our Retriever ate a batch of dark chocolate chip cookies my mom made and went into spasms and fever that lasted for days even with medication. Also, the 7 dog years to 1 human year is a load of bollocks. Just an old wives tale for the most part.

And in case you don't believe me, i googled it and the first result was - pets.webmd.com/dogs/guide/dogs-and-chocolate-get-the-facts

Hehe, it's true for humans too in a way. With obesity and all.
