You know what? **** it. Let people have whatever idols they want. Personally I have a slew of idols from Frank Sinatra, Marlee Matlin to Lady Gaga and Adam Gontier. Everyone has someone who stands out to them and they want to have similar qualities to that person/those people in the future. Everyone has different backgrounds and connect to different people. C'est la vie

I agree that everyone should believe what they want to believe until a certain point, celebrities are held in such high standings now that they don't even fart without it making news somewhere, our society does nothing but praise celebrities until one of them does something human and makes a mistake, we should not be putting celebrities on these rickety pedestals but we should be giving children role models to look up to. As a 17 yr old who has been brought up amongst the celebrity worship i can say a role model (from anyone other than immediate family) i have lacked. If science/teachings of any sorts were the things forced into our lives on a daily basis then we would be a lot smarter than we are now.

A recent scientific study says we peaked intellectually 2000 years ago, since then we have been in a gradual decline. 2000 years ago, a time in which intellectuals were worshiped and those who thought too highly of themselves were unfavorable.

You mean like Nero. The guy who thought he was the son of god, and was an Emperor. Or like The Romans, who thought rubbing bull testicles on themselves had healing properties. No, we haven't peaked yet, and we won't ever. Because Humans are a beautiful, ever growing race.

Scientific evidence shows we peaked, you are not a scientist so don't feel offended when i don't take your word for it. And Nero is one of the people found unfavorable, much to the point that then ended up scrapping emperors altogether because they thought too highly of themselves.

We inhale a corrosive gas.
We drink some of the most potent solvents.
Our preferred method of hunting was persistence hunting; we simply chased after our prey until their body simply gave up and died.
We can eat just about anything we find. We didn't need to stop for food while chasing our prey.
We can't find food? Our body will simply begin eating itself.
We can take a large amount of damage to our extremities, lose half our blood, and still live.
Our existence is owed to persistence, endurance and determination.
A task? Gets done. Period.
This still affects us today.

In 332 BC Alexander the Great hits a stalemate with a fortified island. Instead of being defeated, he builds a kilometer long bridge and conquers the island.

In 49 BC Cesar turns a political fight into a civil war, invading Italy with a single legion. He eventually becomes dictator, starting a world superpower whose engineering feats are only recently being broken.

In 1961 a man decides that we will go to the moon, without half of the technology to do so even existing. 8 years later, two humans stand on the surface of the moon.

200 years ago, we didn't have railroads.
100 years ago, we didn't have airplanes.
50 years ago, we didn't have spaceflight.
25 years ago, we didn't have internet.

We have inherited the Earth and soon we WILL inherit the stars and anyone or anything that stands in our way will be eliminated one way or another.

That's called natural progression and doesn't say anything about a gradual decline of intelligence, your points mean nothing.

That basically just said we've stopped evolving, not that we've reached our peek. It's more the media is just trying to be interesting.

Lady Gaga is actually an alright person herself. Her music isn't the best thing in the world, but she herself is a nice person. And the fact she wears all that spastic ******** in public and doesn't seem to care that everyones like "Oh god what the ****", well, I can respect that. That takes courage in this day and age, famous or not.

I agree with you that people should be able to have their own idols.

But Justin Bieber just isn't a good choice. He may be rich and successful, but he acts like a spoiled little brat, attacking paparazzi, throwing fits, etc. He just really isn't a good person. I understand why people might idolize him due to his popularity, I just think he's an extremely poor choice for one.

They came out with an album last month (Transit To Venus) , it's closer to their older stuff than Life Starts Now, I listen to it and enjoy it, but alas, it's not the same as the original two...

Cookie for you for recognizing the name btw...

While we're on the topic of Idols, I'll list mine and hopefully attract people who agree then we can be friends forever.

Cr1tikal, Leonardo Da Vinci, Batman, everyone in Dropkick Murphys and Rammstein and finally, Ezio Auditore.
