I wonder what the world will be like in 50 years' time. If we will look back to these days, when the internet was new and free. If we'll reflect fondly on the days of pirating media, open-source software, arguing anonymously, wasting endless hours on stupid videos of cats-- with a sadness that it has all changed. I wonder if I'll keep my old hard drive somewhere, and years from now, flip through the funny pictures I've saved, screencaps of threads, all those reaction images, and what did we call them then-- memes. If I'll start up my old computer and idly try to load pages that haven't existed for years, if I'll try to explain to my grandchildren what the Internet was in my time and ultimately fail to to it justice.
Where will we all be, in 50 years' time? We are the internet generation, we were raised on it, we grew along with the internet, in a sense, we built much of it. Internet culture, free software, memes, in-jokes, the good, the bad, the ugly-- it was us who created it.
We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams. What will become of us and all that we have created?
